The YouTube channel of the Joshua Run Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) was deactivated last week and is no longer accessible to its nearly two million subscribers.
OpenDemocracy, a British media rights group, told CNN that on 8. April sent a message to YouTube asking if the conversion therapy video violated their policy.
We discovered at least seven videos. In one video, T.B. Joshua slaps a woman and her partner, whom he calls second (partner), at least 16 times, said Lydia Namubiru, Africa editor of OpenDemocracy.
He had exorcised his female spirit, Namubiru said, referring to the content his organisation had posted on YouTube and Facebook. The woman later told Joshua that she no longer felt connected to her partner because of his intervention, Namubiru said.
In another case, a young man is beaten several times and his dreadlocks are shaved off before he testifies that he is no longer attracted to men, Namubiru added.
YouTube has not issued a public statement on the matter. CNN tried to reach YouTube for comment, but was unsuccessful.
CNN saw an email sent on the 13th. April sent to OpenDemocracy by a YouTube spokesperson, who said: The YouTube Community Code of Conduct prohibits hate speech and we remove reported videos and comments that violate this policy. In this case, we cut the channel….. We reviewed the videos reported to us and took appropriate action, which led to the closure of the channel.

In a statement posted on Facebook last week, T.B. Ministries said. Joshua said they would appeal YouTube’s decision to block his channel.

We have a long and fruitful relationship with YouTube and we believe this decision was rushed….. We are working to appeal this decision and restore the channel, the statement said.
The Lagos-based mega retailer also called on his millions of followers to protest YouTube’s action via social media – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
Commenting on Joshua’s teaching methods, a spokesman for the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the umbrella body for Christian groups in the country, told CNN that the association does not interfere with how churches are run or how people run their places of worship.
The YouTube sanction is a blow to Joshua, whose services and humanitarian projects have been featured on the popular video platform in different parts of the world.
Joshua became known in the late 1990s for the rise of the prosperity gospel, a Pentecostal doctrine that claims health and financial blessings based on the degree of faith one can demonstrate.
However, it gained national prominence in 2014 after a building collapsed at the SCO site, killing more than 100 people – most of whom were foreigners from South Africa, according to Chinese state media, CCTV reported.
