The Pro Football Hall of Fame is a hall of fame in the National Football League (NFL) for the best players in the NFL. The selection process is very controversial and controversial players are not usually chosen to the Hall of Fame.
This year, three new members have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame—former NFL cornerback Deion Sanders, linebacker Derrick Thomas and former head coach Don Coryell. For the first time since 1993, when Jerry Rice became the first ever athlete to be inducted, there will be no quarterbacks in this year’s class.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced its Class of 2016 on Friday, and while we’re still waiting to see who will be enshrined, we can tell you the list of this year’s nominees. Among this year’s finalists are:
Members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s class of 2020 and the Centennial class are being officially honored Saturday night in Canton, Ohio, despite having to wait a year due to the coronavirus epidemic.
Legends of the game Troy Polamalu (Pittsburgh Steelers), Steve Atwater (Denver Broncos, New York Jets), Isaac Bruce (Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams, San Francisco 49ers), Steve Hutchinson (Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans) and Edgerrin James (Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans) are among the class of 2020. (Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks).
The HOF’s Centennial class consists of fifteen individuals, some of whom have waited decades to hear their names announced. The band was chosen to commemorate the NFL’s 100th anniversary. Ten seniors, two coaches, and three contributors make up the senior class. Former NFL coaches Bill Cowher (Steelers) and Jimmy Johnson (Cowboys, Dolphins) are among them, as are former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue and NFL Films’ Steve Sabol.
Peyton Manning, who won two Super Bowls and established many records during his 18-year career with the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos, leads the 2021 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. At 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, Manning and the other members of the class will be inducted into the Hall of Fame (ESPN).

Speakers on Saturday night
Harold Carmichael, wide receiver (Philadelphia Eagles, 1971-1983; Dallas Cowboys, 1984)
The curriculum vitae: The 6-foot-8 defensive end has been selected to the Pro Bowl four times. In 1980, Carmichael was named the league’s Man of the Year for his community service. Carmichael had a steady effect in an age when Drew Pearson led the league in receiving yards with 877 in 1977, averaging over 15 yards per reception in six seasons. In 1973, he led the league in receptions and receiving yards, and he ended his career with three 1,000-yard seasons.
He stated it himself: “I’m very pleased to be a member of this fraternity… What an adventure… ‘Do your job better than everyone else and surround yourself with excellent people,’ said coach [Dick] Vermeil.”
Cliff Harris (safety) (Dallas Cowboys, 1970-79)
Harris joined the Cowboys as an undrafted rookie in 1970, having previously competed as a collegiate sprinter and cornerback. Harris was one of the first box safety in the league to be athletic enough to return punts and kickoffs. Harris and Hall of Famer Jake Scott, according to Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton, were the two greatest safeties he ever faced. Harris was named to the Pro Bowl six times. In 1976, he led the Cowboys in tackles and interceptions. He was a part of two Super Bowl championship teams, and the Cowboys made the playoffs in nine of his ten seasons.
He stated it himself: “This has been an amazing trip for me… I was also fortunate enough to play alongside a number of famous players… Football was my first love, but I also wanted to be a doctor… If I can do it, anybody can. The secret is to never give up, to keep trying, and to keep learning.”
