All Jets fans agree that the most underappreciated Jet is their special teams ace, Keelan Johnson. He’s a free agent in 2021, when the Jets will be in desperate need of replacements for both their free agents and cuts. The Jets haven’t had a great special teams unit since the days of Santonio Holmes and Nick Mangold. While Johnson hasn’t been a starter for most of his career, he has excelled in his limited appearances.

The New York Jets know how to play the game of football. They are the most valuable franchise in the National Football League, and among the most valuable in all of professional sports. Since their inception in 1960, the team has won five Super Bowls, appeared in nine and is one of only two NFL teams to have qualified for the playoffs every year since 1970.

The New York Jets have a new face in the backfield. Chris Ivory is set to become a Jet. There will be a lot of mouths to feed in the New York backfield, but Ivory is the only one who has been with the franchise for all four seasons since the Jets have returned to the NFL. The Jets have a new running back in the fold in the form of Ivory, but who is the most underappreciated Jet in the locker room according to statistics?. Everyone knows the glitters that stir the New York Jets’ drinks, but now it’s time to get to know some of the lesser-known names on the roster. NFL Network analyst Cynthia Frelund recently revealed her comprehensive list of the most underrated players on every NFL team in 2021. He determined the most undervalued players based on several factors, including salary, metric contribution (the NFL equivalent of WAR, which relates a player’s contribution to wins and losses), initial draft status, and their Put all this data into the mixer and you get a very interesting name on the Jets list.

Follow Michael…2021-01-22T10:00:12Z John Franklin-Myers is the definition of underrated. He is in the final year of his $920,000 contract. According to Spotrac, JFM is the 358th highest paid quarterback in the NFL. The Jets have made a move for a young defensive player in 2019. In September of that year, Gang Green picked him up from the Los Angeles Rams. A month later he was placed on injured reserve and never returned to action. As a wise man once said, good things come to those who wait. In 2020, JFM recovered and was able to reach its full potential. He played in 15 games, started two and had the best year of his career:

  • Three pockets.
  • 13 quarterback hits
  • Two rebounds of the ball

All of these numbers are highlights in his career, but it’s the longer numbers that show he’s on the verge of really breaking through and really living up to his name. Last season, JFM collected 27 quarterback pressures (second most on the team), behind only Quinnen Williams, who had 32. By my computer standards, his recovery rate (measured by when he hits an offensive player and then runs around him to make his way to the quarterback) would be 11th in the NFL in 2020.

JFM faces a career-defining season in 2021

June 2021 In 2021, head coach Robert Saleh implements his 4-3 scheme that he learned in Seattle and developed in San Francisco. Most of the start-up and lead players have already been identified: Williams, Sheldon Rankins, Foley Fatukasi and Carl Lawson are all in the lineup. There is a gaping hole in the starting lineup against Lawson. It now looks like this void will be filled by a committee of talented EDGE pushers:

  • Vinnie Curry.
  • Bryce Huff.
  • Kyle Phillips
  • Hamilcar Rashed Jr.
  • Jabari Zuniga

Saleh’s bread and butter is using a small rotation on the defensive line to keep everyone fresh. But like any coach, he’s willing to change his philosophy if someone proves themselves. JFM is young (24 years old) and is in a contract year. A player who hasn’t even reached his peak yet, who has every chance of living up to his exceptional potential? This sounds like a recipe for success. Last season, the Jets were 24th in the NFL in sacks (31). It’s been a long time since they had an EDGE rusher that opponents had to play around. The 2021 team has two players who fit that profile: Lawson and Williams. This should give Franklin-Myers an advantage in one-on-one matches. If successful, it could be one of the most brilliant revolutions in recent NFL history. A good year in 2021 could lead to a long-term contract with the Jets and mean big money for JFM and his family.New Jets receiver Quincy Enunwa emerged as one of the team’s most underappreciated stars last year. (No, that’s not a typo). Enunwa had a career year last season, recording career highs in receptions (71), yards (1,042) and touchdowns (9). Enunwa, who is entering his fifth season in the NFL, does not receive national attention for his play, but his work as a team leader and one of the Jets top playmakers was recognized. Enunwa was named the team’s most underappreciated player for the upcoming season, named a captain, and was also selected as the Jets nominee for the team’s Walter Payton Man of the Year.
