Messi dreams of playing in MLS.

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi touched on many topics in an extensive interview with La Sexta on Sunday night, but his comments about the possibility of one day playing Major League Soccer have fascinated fans of the sport in the US.

When asked if he wanted to play in MLS, Messi answered: No, I can’t: I’ve always dreamed of living in the United States and discovering the competition there.

Barcelona talked a lot about the future of the Argentine international, especially with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, but admitted that a decision would not be taken until June.

No [I will not talk to the other clubs because] I have nothing clear until the end of the year, added Messi. I’ll wait till the end of the season. The most important thing is to think about the team and try to win titles and not be distracted by other things.

I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I’m concentrating on what we have in front of us for the next six months. It would be wrong to tell you what I’m going to do next, because even I don’t know.

The city’s football group owns the New York Soccer Club, while Inter Miami CF David Beckham seems to have linked up with all the world stars. So there will undoubtedly be intrigue if Messi ever lands on the shores of the state.
