Netflix has unveiled a new trailer for Things Heard & Seen. The thriller, due out later this month, stars Oscar nominee Amanda Seyfried (Mank, Mama Mia! Here We Go Again). The film takes us back to the 1980s and focuses on a Manhattan couple who move into a historic house, only to discover that there is a strange darkness to their marriage. As you can see from the trailer, this adaptation of Elizabeth Brundage’s 2016 novel hides all sorts of secrets and evils.

The trailer opens with the couple at the center of our story preparing to leave New York and move to the country. Amanda Seyfried’s Catherine is reluctant but agrees to support her husband. At first they are very happy in their new farmhouse, which does need some repairs. But Catherine opens a book that leads her down a dark path. It turns out that this small town has a dark history, and his new home is right in the middle of that darkness. The trailer doesn’t reveal much about the evil in the game, but it does hint at a lot of gruesome events.

Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman (American Splendor) wrote and directed the film. It is based on a novel by Elizabeth Brundage Everything Stops. The cast also includes James Norton (Happy Valley), Natalia Dyer (Stranger Things), Alex Neustedter (Colony), Rhea Seehorn (Best Call Saul), Michael O’Keefe (Caddyshack), Karen Allen (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Jack Gore (Scraps of Peace), F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus), James Urbaniak (Venture Brothers) and Ana Sofia Heger (Life in Pieces). Anthony Bregman, Stephanie Azpiazu, Peter Kron and Julie Cohen are the producers. The executive producers are Peter Pastorelli, Stephen Lippross, Pulcini and Berman.

Things Heard & Seen revolves around Katherine Claire (Amanda Seyfried), who reluctantly trades her life in 1980s Manhattan for a remote home in the small village of Chosen, New York. Her husband George (James Norton) has found a job as a professor of art history at a small university in the Hudson Valley, necessitating the move. Although she does her best to make the old dairy farm a happy place for her young daughter Franny, Catherine feels increasingly isolated and alone. She soon senses an ominous darkness lurking both within the walls of her crumbling mansion and in her marriage.

Netflix has a series of original films planned for 2021. This is just one of more than 70 features the streamer will offer its subscribers throughout the year. Pieces of a Woman, Outside the Wire, Yes Day and Bad Trip are just a few of the recent releases, with Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, Dwayne Johnson’s Red Note and Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up, among many others still to come. Things Heard & Seen will be released on the 29th. April on the Netflix streaming service. Be sure to check out the new trailer.
