Filmmakers have shown over the last ten years that there are always new methods to produce movies and communicate stories. When Richard Linklater shot Boyhood over the course of twelve years, he pioneered a new kind of filmmaking. With Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller opened our eyes to the limitless possibilities of special and practical effects. The world may be a harsh and strange place at times. It will always be up to movies to bring us through difficult times and convey our sentiments and emotions via art. Here are the top ten films of the decade, rated.
Slavery for 1012 Years
The Oscar-winning picture 12 Years a Slave, directed by Steve McQueen, took viewers on a terrible trip through slavery in the antebellum United States. Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is abducted and sold into slavery, moving from one horrible area to the next, based on a real tale. It’s a sad, but significant, picture that highlights filmmaker Steve McQueen’s talent. In her Oscar-winning portrayal as the doomed slave Patsey, Lupita Nyong’o offers a career-defining performance.
The Place Beyond The Pines (also known as “The Place Beyond The Pines”) is a
In this underappreciated criminal thriller starring Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper, Derek Cianfrance innovated the three-act framework. The Place Beyond the Pines’ first act follows Luke (Gosling) as he commits a series of bank robberies before being slain by police officer Avery Cross (Cooper). The plot then changes to Cross’s path through police corruption and politics, before concluding in the third act with the consequences of their boys. It’s a gripping criminal thriller with stunning photography and an unforgettable soundtrack.
It’s difficult to see a Mad Max film without Mel Gibson. Fortunately, Tom Hardy rises to the challenge in the high-octane action film Mad Max: Fury Road. George Miller defied expectations with his practical and special effects work, demonstrating that he is still one of the greatest. Alongside Max is Furiosa (Charlize Theron), a truck-driving rebel attempting to rescue a group of young ladies from the ruthless Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne).
7Boyhood
Boyhood, directed by Richard Linklater, demonstrated that cinema has no bounds and that there are always new approaches to produce a film. Boyhood is a twelve-year film that follows Mason (Ellar Coltrane) through puberty and concludes with his first day of college. In this must-see picture that changed the norms of filmmaking, Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke provide outstanding performances alongside him.
6Get Out
In 2018, Get Out should have won Best Picture. The film told a unique story about a new kind of horror: upper-class suburban white folks. Things start to go odd when Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) visits his girlfriend’s parents at their suburban house. He eventually finds himself in a bizarre nightmare, learning the family’s nefarious brain implantation scheme. Jordan Peele has shown to be the next big thing thanks to his brilliant story and directing.
5Parasite
From start to finish, Bong Joon Ho’s masterwork on class prejudice shocks and entertains. The Kims, an impoverished family in South Korea, make their way into the life of the upper-class Park family in Parasite. It’s a superbly choreographed picture with a lot to say that will undoubtedly become a classic. Bong Joon Ho opened the world’s eyes and sparked a debate on society’s class limits.
4The Grandmaster
The Master, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, saw Joaquin Phoenix reprise his role as Freddie Quell, a vagabond who comes under the control of Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and his cult-like organization known as “The Cause.” It’s an unusual and creative narrative about friendship and post-World War II society, and it’s one of Paul Thomas Anderson’s greatest pictures to date.
3 The Life Tree
Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life, which won the Palme d’Or in 2011, spans time and space while concentrating on a family in Waco, Texas in 1956. It’s a film that should be viewed several times. A roller coaster trip over the Universe is created by the vibrant and strange images and the continually shifting camera. The Tree Of Life is a stunning and lyrical masterwork that pushed the boundaries of cinema.
2The Warmest Color Is Blue
Blue Is the Warmest Color, another Palme d’Or winner, is an honest portrayal of love and life. The film follows Adèle (Adèle Exarchopoulos) as she falls in love with Emma (Léa Seydoux), a lovely blue-haired woman. The movie effectively depicts the spirit of love, as well as the ups and downs that come with it. Blue Is The Warmest Color, directed by Abdellatif Kechiche, is a film that everyone should watch.

Aaron Sorkin’s masterfully crafted Shakespearean-like narrative has it all when it comes to a fantastic plot. The film about Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) and the founding of Facebook was unexpectedly epic in scope, telling a story of devotion, invention, and betrayal. Director David Fincher expertly dissects each shot with utmost detail, demonstrating his prowess as a filmmaker. The Social Network will go down as one of the most influential films of all time.

CORAL GABLES, FLORIDA – Blake James, the athletic director for the Miami Hurricanes, was hesitant to make any predictions about how this season will go for coach Manny Diaz, who has been chastised for his team’s 2-4 start.
When asked whether Diaz was under fire, James told ESPN.com, “I’m not sure what you mean by “hot seat.” Every one of my coaches is judged on how well they and their teams perform. Clearly, this has been a dismal season. We’ve played six games so far and have six more to go. Our main emphasis right now is on winning our next six games.”
James also refused to clarify whether he will make any coaching changes throughout the season.
“Looking into the future is too difficult,” James said. “I’m not sure what’s going to happen this time. I believe that everyone is continually reviewed, and you make the judgments that you believe are in the best interests of the program.”
Miami had a preseason top-15 team with great hopes to compete in the ACC’s Coastal Division this season. However, following a season-opening defeat to Alabama, Miami has struggled to find success, and the loss of quarterback D’Eriq King and a slew of other players to injuries has only compounded the problem. Despite this, the Hurricanes placed themselves in position to win their last two games, but lost both on the last play, to Virginia and North Carolina, respectively.
“I believe Manny has done all he has to do to put the pieces in position for Miami to win again,” James said, “but look at our past two games.” “We’re 2-0 in the Coastal after two plays go in separate directions. With that said, the fact is that you have to find a way to win those games, which we aren’t doing. Manny is now working on bringing us to that position. Clearly, we haven’t achieved the kind of success that we desire as a program, or that our fan base demands.”
Diaz, who is in his third season as Miami’s coach, was hired after Mark Richt announced his retirement after the 2018 season. This season, he took over playcalling responsibilities for the defense, although the squad has been chastised for bad tackling and missed plays.
Coach announced earlier this week that against No. 18 NC State on Saturday, he will use younger players, and he has defended the program’s trajectory, saying that he has recruited a good young bunch of players to develop around. However, Miami’s 2022 recruiting class is presently ranked No. 32 in ESPN’s rankings. In recent weeks, fans have increased their criticism of the show, raising the level of hostility around it.
“We’ve got a lot of people with a lot of pride who want to win,” Diaz stated during his weekly press conference on Monday. “They are dissatisfied with how the year has progressed. Nobody is pleased with the way the year has turned out. So, in terms of outside loudness, what’s going on in here can’t be much more upsetting than what’s going on outside. We have an opportunity to do something about it right now.”
Despite the Hurricanes’ hard work over the previous two weeks, James said his final appraisal would take everything into account, including victories and defeats.
“A lot of variables go into assessing, such as where we are with the team, development, progress, what we’re seeing from the young people in the program, and what we’re doing in terms of recruiting.” James stated his opinion. “A laundry list of items is included in the assessment. Winning is at the top of the priority list. Because that’s something we’ll have to consider in our programs here at the University of Miami in the future, and right now, we’re not winning enough.”
James also reiterated the university’s commitment to the sports department.
“As an institution, we’re devoted to winning,” he added. “So, whatever it means, I’m certain that’s the path our institution will pursue. Whether it’s a financial decision on coaching salaries or a financial decision on what we need to do [to] re-establish ourselves as a program, the institution is committed to seeing this athletics program succeed at the highest level, and they’re committed to doing whatever it takes to compete with the best.”

Last summer, the nation’s biggest police agency was pressured by protests after the death of George Floyd, a campaign to cut budget for the department, and escalating levels of gun violence. The New York Times’ Dakota Santiago contributed to this article.
The next mayor will take over the New York Police Department at a pivotal point in its recent history. And during the first general election discussion, issues about how the nation’s biggest police force would work were at the forefront.
The two candidates, Eric Adams and Curtis Sliwa, argued on daily police tactics, the possible return of a plainclothes police squad, and how to treat mental health issues that drive certain instances of violence on public transportation.
Mr. Sliwa, the Republican candidate, sought to imply that Mr. Adams would support the misuse of stop-and-frisk, which at its zenith featured the detention of hundreds of thousands of individuals, many of whom were young Black and Latino males, for weapons that seldom appeared.
“I would not do what one of his biggest backers, Michael Bloomberg, did,” Mr. Sliwa added, “which required 700,000 men of color, mostly of color, to be stopped and frisked using a specific system that was put in place.”
Mr. Adams, the Democratic contender and a former police captain, said that his record as a cop and politician demonstrated he had “saved Black and brown and low-income New Yorkers” from police abuses.
Mr. Adams said, “My kid was a victim of stop-and-frisk in the city.” “I never advocate for harsh police techniques; instead, I advocate for police tactics that are acceptable.”
Following last summer’s demonstrations over the assassination of George Floyd, public pressure has grown to cut police expenditures and curtail the department’s mandate. Simultaneously, the number of shootings and killings in the city soared to their highest levels in at least a decade last summer and have stayed considerably above pre-pandemic levels ever since.
The agency is likewise faced with a public relations dilemma. Even when incidents of police brutality have been verified by department or city investigators, abusive officers nearly always stay on the duty and typically get little to no discipline, according to documents disclosed over the past year.
Mr. Sliwa chastised Mr. Adams for not interviewing Hispanic and Latino applicants for the position of police commissioner in one of their clashes. Mr. Adams, who had said that he would choose a woman of color for the post, responded by telling Mr. Sliwa that he had no idea who he had interviewed and that he should concentrate on his own plans.
Mr. Adams endeavored to maintain a consistent tone throughout the primary season, describing a moderate approach to police in general while highlighting public safety as a key campaign issue. He has said that he believes in cutting fat from the police department’s budget in a responsible manner.
Mr. Adams said, “I’ve been clear on this message for the past 35 years.” “I haven’t changed in the least.”
Mr. Sliwa, who has highlighted a commitment to public safety, chastised Mr. Adams for his budget stance, saying that he not only feels the spending should be preserved, but that it should be increased. Mr. Adams’ past claims that he would carry a pistol as mayor were also criticised.
“I’m always in the city, I don’t wear a bulletproof vest, and I don’t have a gun.” Mr. Sliwa said, “I never have.” “I’ll tell you what, if you want to reach out to young guys who use weapons in violent acts, you can’t say, ‘Do as I say, but not as I do.’”

After the leftovers of Hurricane Ida murdered 15 individuals, the majority of whom were killed by basement flooding, protecting New York City from the increased flood hazards associated with climate change is a hot topic among voters.
Both Eric Adams and Curtis Sliwa vow to improve drainage, flood warning systems, flood-resistant architecture, and coastal flood barriers in order to combat floods.
When asked to describe three things they would do to avoid further flooding fatalities during the discussion, the contenders argued over their tactics. Mr. Adams emphasized the need for stronger warning systems and clearer planning for what to do in the event of significant cloudbursts.
He remarked, “We’re going to put in place a clear reaction strategy.” “We learn from terrorism that you don’t wait till an aircraft strikes to act.”
Mr. Sliwa urged for the construction of new sea barriers, noting that one planned in Staten Island has remained unbuilt nine years after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the region with coastal flooding. “Politicians like Eric Adams, Bill de Blasio, and others have lost people’s trust,” he stated.
Mr. Adams accurately emphasized that the current flooding was caused by downpours, not storm surges from the sea, unlike Mr. Sliwa, who has been sure to portray the flooding issue as part of the greater concerns of climate change.
“It had nothing to do with sea barriers,” he added, insisting that trying to solve a contemporary issue with old ways won’t work: “This requires intervention and prevention.” (Mr. Adams is not anti-sea walls; rather, he views them as one of many instruments that must be used in diverse ways depending on the demands and ecology of each location.)
While Mr. Sliwa’s four-point policy proposal ignores climate change, Mr. Adams’ plan pledges to address climate concerns in every community, including high heat, sea level rise, and severe storms. He promises to push through measures started by the Bloomberg and de Blasio administrations, such as increasing green roofs and restoring wetlands.
Mr. Adams has also mentioned cutting fossil fuel use and phasing out gas-fired power plants to address the city’s impact to climate change, but he has not stated a deadline. He also hasn’t specified whether he’ll make it a priority to execute and extend a municipal ordinance mandating major buildings to minimize greenhouse gas emissions. Real-estate lobbying organizations, who sponsored his candidacy, want to narrow the statute and exploit loopholes.

The topic of where Eric Adams lives has been a source of considerable consternation throughout the campaign.
A moderator questioned Mr. Adams how the voter could trust him given the uncertainties surrounding his residence and how he accounted for his real estate on his tax filings.
Mr. Adams said, as he has before, that he accepts responsibility for any errors on his tax forms and then blamed his accountant, whom he claimed was homeless.
Mr. Adams said of his accountant, “He went through tremendous anguish.” “And I’m not a hypocrite; I still wanted to provide him the help he needed.”
Mr. Adams again reiterated that Brooklyn is his main home.
Mr. Adams owns a multi-unit townhouse in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, where he claims to have an apartment. He conducted a media tour of that flat, with reporters witnessing non-vegan food items reportedly belonging to Mr. Adams’s son, in one of the most strange moments of the mayoral race. (For years, Mr. Adams has been a vegan.)
However, Mr. Adams and his partner own a co-op in Fort Lee, N.J., and he has said that he temporarily relocated to Brooklyn Borough Hall once the epidemic struck. Mr. Adams used inconsistent addresses in public records throughout the primary, according to Politico New York, and he was still spending nights at Borough Hall.
According to the news site The City, he had to re-file his tax returns due to inconsistencies with his residence. According to the publication, the city has requested an inspection of his Brooklyn home after an accusation of an unlawful apartment conversion. Despite the fact that the complaint is still current, his team has said that he intends to address the concerns.
Mr. Sliwa recently conducted a trek from Manhattan to Fort Lee, with the goal of discovering “where Eric Adams truly lives.”

The most urgent concern for both candidates on gifted and talented education is whether they would keep using the widely panned entrance test for entering primary school pupils, which Mayor Bill de Blasio said he would abolish permanently.
However, the next mayor will have to decide whether or not to employ that test, which is administered to 4-year-olds against the recommendations of many proponents of gifted education.
In New York City, the high-stakes exam, which is usually given in January, has contributed to establish a cottage industry of test preparation for young children.
The contract for that exam was rejected by the city’s advisory school board earlier this year, leaving Mr. de Blasio, who has slammed the test, without a clear admissions mechanism.
Mr. Adams and Mr. Sliwa have both said that the gifted program would be maintained, but they have not stated if the exam will be administered again, whether it will be overhauled, or whether it will be replaced with another kind of screening.
Mr. Adams said during the discussion on Wednesday that the city should re-examine the admissions test while ensuring that chances for “accelerated learners” are available in “every district in our city and every ZIP code.”
He said, “I made it plain that we need to look at that test.” “I don’t think a four-year-old passing the test should have any bearing on the remainder of their education.” This is inexcusable.”
Mr. Sliwa also expressed his support for extending the gifted program to all schools, citing his son as one of thousands of pupils who “failed” the exam.
Mr. Sliwa said, “We appear to be taking it out on Asian and Southeast Asian families because they’re doing so well.” “Gifted and talented has to be expanded so that it is available in all schools, even if only three or two students qualify.”

Given New York City’s predominantly Democratic slant and many political analysts’ perceptions of him as a fundamentally unserious public figure, Republican mayoral hopeful Curtis Sliwa is clearly a long-shot candidate.
While some New Yorkers remember him for his early work with the Guardian Angels, which he established, or his many appearances in the mainstream media, Mr. Sliwa has acknowledged to fabricating crimes for the sake of attention. He’s also notorious for living in a 320-square-foot studio apartment with more than a dozen cats while campaigning.
Mr. Sliwa is anticipated to use the discussion to emphasize some of his key campaign topics, such as public safety, animal welfare, and addressing homelessness.
Mr. Sliwa has the opportunity to surprise spectators with a calm manner that reflects the nervous tone of the city during the discussion. However, he is more likely to take the Democratic candidate, Eric Adams, to task on a range of issues, including his residence.
Onstage, Mr. Sliwa can be a brawler, as seen by his first big debate against Fernando Mateo in the Republican primary, in which the two men hurled obscenities and continued to shout at one other, even when muted.
However, even some political strategists were unaware that the discussion was taking place, indicating that Mr. Sliwa would have minimal influence with the ordinary people.

The debate requirement for Eric Adams, the Democratic mayoral candidate, is clear: Do no damage.
Given New York City’s overwhelming Democratic lean, Mr. Adams enters the discussion as the obvious front-runner, and few political experts anticipate anything in the debate to alter that.
Even yet, it’s been months since Mr. Adams has been at the heart of a debate-stage brawl, and many Democrats feel he’d be smart to keep out of it, no matter how much his Republican opponent, Curtis Sliwa, tries to provoke him.
Instead, the debate provides an opportunity for Mr. Adams to set out his ideas and stress unity in front of a city where he was most recently involved in a crowded and heated Democratic primary fight.
Mr. Adams is most known for his public safety ideas, but the discussion may force him to provide specifics about how he would address the city’s many other issues.
More generally, it will be an opportunity for Mr. Adams to demonstrate that he understands the attitude of a community that is both hopeful about ongoing recovery and gravely concerned about the pandemic’s enduring health, educational, and economic implications.

Indeed, David Ushery, a news anchor for WNBC-TV in New York, has been interviewing celebrities since he was an 11-year-old host on “Kidsworld,” a news program on which he interviewed Walter Cronkite. Mr. Ushery is a Connecticut native who has contributed to the Hartford Courant and the Los Angeles Times.

Curtis Sliwa is more than his 16 cats and his infamous red beret.
Mr. Sliwa, 67, has gotten more attention on the campaign trail for his tiny army of rescue cats than for anything else. He is a long-shot Republican mayoral candidate.
Mr. Sliwa, on the other hand, has been a New York City star for decades.
In the 1980s, he rose to prominence as the leader of the Guardian Angels, a citizen crime-fighting organization. He rose to prominence as a conservative radio presenter noted for his outlandish remarks. He testified in a federal trial against John A. Gotti, the Gambino crime family scion, after surviving a gunshot that left him with five bullet wounds.
He entered politics and became the leader of the Reform Party of New York State; in the most recent statewide election, the Reform Party received the fewest votes for governor among the ten parties on the ballot. He switched parties last year and decided to run for mayor, winning a contentious primary in June against his longtime friend and restaurateur Fernando Mateo.
Mr. Sliwa has emphasized a law-and-order theme, criticizing former President Donald J. Trump and stating that he did not vote for him in either 2016 or 2020.
He concedes that his campaign hasn’t had many analogues.
“Who, at the age of 67, is wearing a red beret and a red satin jacket and acting like a crime fighter and a superhero from our childhood days of reading comic books?” Over the summer, Mr. Sliwa told The New York Times. “That’s a little strange.”

Mr. Adams, the Brooklyn borough president and a moderate, declared himself “the face of the new Democratic Party” after the June primary victory, vowing to “teach America how to manage a city.”
Since then, he’s worked hard to broaden his support base, wooing the city’s business sector, conducting many fund-raising events, and meeting with former Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and his staff on how to rule.
Mr. Adams’ primary campaign was centered on the issue of crime. Despite the fact that the issue remains a top priority for him, he has begun to lay out some of his other ideas, including calling for neighborhoods like SoHo in Manhattan to be rezoned to create more affordable housing, promising to build hundreds of miles of new bike lanes, and promising to keep and expand the city’s gifted and talented program in public schools after Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that it would be phased out.

Since winning a hotly fought Democratic mayoral primary in June, Eric Adams has spent the majority of his time collecting money, evaluating possible administration employees, and preparing for his anticipated transition to the mayorship.
Mr. Adams, on the other hand, will be compelled to focus for at least an hour on his Republican opponent, Curtis Sliwa, when they face off in the first of two formal debates between the two top contenders for mayor of New York City on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The two major-party candidates for mayor of New York City will debate at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the first of two televised debates, with Election Day less than two weeks away.
Eric Adams, the Brooklyn borough president, is the obvious front-runner, having won a close Democratic primary in June and holding a big edge in fund-raising, endorsements, and party favoritism: registered Democratic voters outnumber Republicans in New York City by about seven to one.
Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels subway patrol organization, has failed to establish traction as a candidate and is likely to use the debates to criticize Mr. Adams, who has mostly ignored him throughout the campaign.
In the weeks leading up to the Nov. 2 election, the candidates have already hurled insults. Mr. Adams slammed Mr. Sliwa as a bigot who was turning the campaign into a spectacle. Mr. Sliwa has condemned Mr. Adams’s campaign against a whistle-blower police officer in the 1990s and has raised concerns about Mr. Adams’s whereabouts.
Both candidates have emphasized the need of law and order. Mr. Adams, a former police captain, has regarded the race almost as an afterthought, declaring himself the Democratic Party’s future leader and arranging meetings to discuss his inevitable transfer to the mayorship.
A man tried to steal $543,000 in Covid funds and faked his death to avoid arrest. The story is interesting because the suspect was caught on CCTV footage trying to enter the bank with a fake ID, but he was stopped by an armed security guard who noticed something suspicious about him.

A man was sentenced to more than four years in federal prison for attempting to defraud the US government of hundreds of thousands of dollars in Covid-19 relief loans before faking his own death.
Acting US Attorney Richard B Myrus said on Thursday that David Adler Staveley is the first individual in the nation to be prosecuted with illegally obtaining forgiven epidemic relief small business loans under the CARES Act.
Staveley and his accomplice David Andrew Butziger submitted four false loan applications with a Rhode Island bank on behalf of numerous companies with significant monthly payrolls.
They applied for loans for two Warwick, Rhode Island restaurants, a Berlin, Massachusetts restaurant, and a wireless business — none of which were owned by Staveley.

Staveley, 54, not only had no ownership in the companies for which he requested relief, but two of them were closed at the time the loan applications were filed and remain closed.
There were no workers at the wireless firm, and no salaries were ever paid.
‘A concerned citizen knowing of the false nature of the loan applications brought them to the attention of law enforcement, which ultimately led to their rejection,’ according to a sentencing document.
In May 2020, Staveley appeared in US District Court and was ordered to be held at home with an electronic monitoring device.

He removed his tracking device, faked his own death, and fled three weeks after being accused with illegally soliciting small business loans.
According to the Washington Post, Staveley left suicide letters with relatives and colleagues, many of whom thought he was dead.
Many others close to him, including his 80-year-old mother, received the letters. Law authorities launched a search and rescue for him when his unlocked vehicle was discovered on a beach near the Atlantic Ocean, keys in the ignition with his wallet.
Many assumed he was dead, but those closest to him assumed it was another of Staveley’s scams – and they were correct, according to FBI investigators.

Staveley used false identities and stolen license plates to travel to several states while on the run. After almost two months on the run, he was arrested by US Marshals in Alpharetta, Georgia.
Staveley will be monitored by the federal government for three years.
Butziger, 53, who pled guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud in September 2020, will not be sentenced until November 1.
The FBI and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation were in charge of investigating this event, and Assistant US Attorney Lee H Vilker is prosecuting the charges.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Russell Wilson, the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks, will visit a hand specialist in Los Angeles on Friday after hurting his middle finger on his throwing hand in a defeat to the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night.
Coach Pete Carroll, who characterized Wilson’s injury as a severe sprain after the game, said the doctor would decide whether Wilson has mallet finger and how it will impact his availability.
Before facing the Steelers in Pittsburgh on Oct. 17, the Seahawks (2-3) enjoy a bye week.
Carroll told reporters early Friday, “He’s being examined by a specialist this morning, and I’ll know more.” “I don’t have much more information than I had last night. We’ll have to wait and see what they come up with.”
Carroll was inept when it came to X-rays. Wilson was asked about the findings after the game, and he said he’ll probably have another X-ray in Los Angeles.
“However, something is going on,” he said. “There’s certainly something going on, and we need to find out what it is and how we’re going to deal with it.”
Wilson’s record of 149 straight starts, the longest by an active quarterback, is in danger as his availability for next Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh is uncertain. Only Peyton Manning (208) has started more straight games to begin his career among quarterbacks since the 1970 merger, according to Elias Sports Bureau. Wilson has battled ailments in the past, including a damaged ankle and injured MCL in 2016.
When asked how Wilson is handling the situation, Carroll replied, “This is Russ at his most competitive.” “He’s doing all he can to be ready to take advantage of whatever opportunities come his way. He’s paying attention. He’s concentrated. He had been working on it all night. He’s already in the air. He’s going to visit the doctor. Everything has been completed in the quickest and most efficient manner possible. It’s a forward-thinking approach. I’m already looking forward to getting back on track. That’s how we’re talking about it, and I’m certain he’ll make the most of whatever timetable is set. Whatever he has to deal with, he’ll handle it admirably.”
Wilson was hurt in the third quarter after his hand collided with Aaron Donald’s arm while he was throwing a long pass. Wilson’s tip of his finger was abnormally bent downward throughout the transmission. The Seahawks’ team doctor and members of their athletic training staff inspected Wilson on the sideline for several minutes, seeing him grasp a football and then bandaging his finger.
Wilson returned for one series, throwing a short pass on a three-and-out, before being replaced for the rest of the game by Geno Smith.
When it became apparent that Wilson couldn’t handle the ball well enough to throw it, Carroll stated “everyone was on board” with the decision to enter Smith. Carroll said on Friday that it wasn’t only about pain management.
“No one should doubt his tenacity,” he added. “Nobody should be able to doubt his commitment. He could have done it if he could have thrown a football and held on to it. Anyone who claims differently does not understand what they are talking about. So you can deal with a lot of things with your hands and still throw the football, and he tried last night but couldn’t get the ball under control. So he would have done it if he could.”
With a touchdown throw to DK Metcalf to complete a 98-yard drive on which he went 5-for-5, Smith gave Seattle hope on Thursday night. On a pass to Tyler Lockett, who went down, he was intercepted, thereby sealing the Rams’ victory. Smith completed 10 of 17 passes for 131 yards.
Carroll remarked, “I think Geno did a fantastic job last night.” “Geno has been training with us for a long time and is ready to step up if called upon. He’s been perfect in his patience with us and his ability to stick with it, as well as his connection with Russ and the coaches. And when he went out, he did all he could. He’s an exceptional football player. He’s got a terrific arm, good judgment, and a thorough understanding of the system.
“I have complete faith in Geno, and I believe you saw that last night in a really tough circumstance — hurry-up, all that kind of thing, he was very excellent at it. He has a thorough understanding of the system, so we’ll be able to remain on track with our preparation, which will benefit everyone. Geno instills confidence and ease in the men around him, and I thought that was a fantastic display.”
Smith’s only playing action since joining the Seahawks in 2019 had been in mop-up duty until Thursday night. In 2017, he made his most recent start with the New York Giants.
Despite receiving little playing time, Carroll believes Smith has the mentality to succeed as a backup quarterback.
“It’s not the makeup that Geno would want to be proud of — that I’m very good at backing up — because everyone wants to be a great starter, and I’ve always told him that he is and will be when the time comes,” Carroll said. “Now he’ll have a shot, and I’m happy for him.”

According to Carroll, the condition of running back Chris Carson is still unknown. He was out of the lineup on Thursday night due to a recurrent neck problem that flared up again this week.

All summer, New York Jets fans have been talking about Denzel Mims.
Since the start of OTAs, the 2020 second-round pick has dropped on the depth chart, and many believe the dip is inexplicable. Don’t get me wrong: the coaching staff has provided justifications.

Fans of the Jets haven’t always agreed with them. When Mims has on the field, he has had mostly good outcomes. He led the receiving corps with three receptions for 51 yards in the preseason game against the New York Giants. The Baylor product then caught a 40-yard catch in Week 1 after finally getting some plays.
After that, the second-year player was nowhere to be seen, at least until Week 4. (inactive Weeks 2 and 3). Mims was handed 10 plays against the Tennessee Titans due to injuries in the wide receiver group, but he got no targets from Zach Wilson.
WR Elijah Moore is expected to return this week after passing the concussion protocol, according to Robert Saleh.

This should come as no surprise, but at his October 6 news conference, head coach Robert Saleh was vague about whether or not Mims will play in Week 5.
“I’ll never make a promise I can’t keep,” Saleh started, “but he is, and if he’s putting in the effort he is, he should be active.” But he’s up against more than just the receivers; he’s up against linebackers, safeties, and corners. [We’re] trying to get everyone engaged in making sure we’re successful in all three phases — offense, defense, and special teams — but he’s earned that right.”
Saleh has previously said that he would be “upset” if Mims wasn’t dissatisfied with his playing time. “He’s a competitive young guy who’s been great throughout the process and has been methodical in practice… This isn’t a criticism on Denzel; it’s simply that there are people available right now… It’s more of a compliment to the room than a criticism on Denzel.”
From what we’ve heard, Mims won’t be doing much in London, if at all. On October 7, the wide receiver spoke to the media and expressed his views on the situation.

Mims talked to reporters for the first time since August, and he addressed all of the tough questions. The interview started with a basic question: how does it feel to compete for snaps?
“It’s been interesting,” Mims said, “but my objective, now that I’m on the bench, is to be helpful.”
“Of course it’s annoying, I’m a competitive player,” the wide receiver said. Of course, every athlete aspires to start and be a starter, but things don’t always happen as planned. I simply have to stay in charge of what I can and come in every day and put positive stuff on film while keeping my head up.”
He was very open about his connection with the coaching staff, stating that nothing has been “punitive” and that they have been completely honest throughout the process.
“I got sick in OTAs and [that] put me back a big step, you know, a big way [because] this is a completely different playbook so I was behind compared to everyone else,” Mims explained. “But I’m coming along, I’m getting there — well, I think I’m there, I’m ready you know, just got to keep doing everything I can to improve.”
It wasn’t the first time the Baylor product told reporters he expected to see more action. When questioned about his progress afterwards, he replied emphatically, “Oh yes, I’m caught up, I’m ready.” Mims also put an end to trade negotiations, stating he’s “not concerned.”
The wide receiver said that he has never lacked confidence, adding that he relies on God, as well as experienced players such as Keelan Cole, Davis, and Jamison Crowder, “every day.” “As of right now, I should be playing,” Mims said after reports that he will be sidelined in Week 5 surfaced.
“Every day is simply a test to see how I respond,” the young athlete added, “but my response is I have to keep [moving] ahead.”

New data today shows that the Chinese property market is faltering under the weight of a weak September sales and a surprise default. The Shanghai Composite Index has fallen by more than 10% since its high in January, with analysts warning that China’s economy could be in for a rough ride as it grapples with trade tensions with the United States.

Investor worries about China’s property developers have been fanned by falling apartment sales and an unexpected default, prompting a sharp selloff in U.S. dollar bonds from several of the sector’s debt-ridden firms.
Traders reported on Wednesday that the price of dozens of dollar bonds issued by Chinese real-estate firms had dropped, causing yields on those bonds to rise. The selloff continued steep losses seen the day before, indicating growing investor skepticism after the failure of luxury developer Fantasia Holdings Group Co. to repay $206 million in dollar notes due on Monday.
After troubled property giant China Evergrande Group ran out of funds and was forced to stop development on several of its unfinished residential projects, certain developers’ sales statistics for September indicated a substantial decline in home-buyer interest.
According to experts, the low figures reflect China’s wider attempts to control the housing market, while Evergrande’s troubles may have made Chinese people less eager to put money down for new houses constructed by other private developers.
The value of debt issued by businesses including Kaisa Group Holdings Ltd., Redsun Properties Group Ltd., and Yuzhou Group Holdings Co. has plummeted. According to Tradeweb, an 11.25 percent Kaisa bond due in April 2022 had fallen to less than 73 cents on the dollar by late Wednesday in Hong Kong, down from more than 86 cents at the start of Tuesday.
On Wednesday, an ICE BofA index of high-yield dollar bonds issued by Chinese firms yielded more over 18 percent, the highest in almost ten years. A significant portion of the gauge is made up of property bonds.

“Trading has been a flurry of activity. “It’s been extremely turbulent; markets are very concerned,” Michel Lowy, CEO of SC Lowy, a financial firm that specializes in distressed and high-yield debt, said. “It’s not only Fantasia,” says the narrator. That was significant, but seeing developers report dreadful September sales figures isn’t helping matters,” he said.
According to Paras Gupta, head of discretionary portfolio management for Asia at Union Bancaire Privée, the selling has extended to bonds issued by Chinese developers with a stronger financial position. “This industry now has a full-fledged risk aversion,” he added.
According to Tradeweb, a bond due in 2031 from Country Garden Holdings Co., one of China’s bigger and more financially stable developers, was quoted at around 88.75 cents on the dollar on Wednesday.
Fantasia’s bond failure, which came only days after Evergrande missed a second interest payment due on a pair of dollar notes, was the primary catalyst for the recent losses. While Evergrande’s offshore investors have a 30-day grace period before declaring a default, Fantasia’s bond matured Monday with no grace period.
Investors were shocked by Fantasia’s nonpayment since the Shenzhen-based developer had previously said that it had no liquidity problems and that it had adequate cash to pay down a five-year dollar bond it issued in 2016. In recent years, Fantasia, like Evergrande, has been a prolific issuer of high-yield dollar bonds.
Some market players speculated that Fantasia and its controlling owners had decided not to repay the company’s foreign debt, raising concerns about whether other Chinese developers might do the same to save money or give onshore creditors precedence.
“The recent incident has shaken market confidence, prompting investors to reconsider sponsors’ readiness to pay,” said Jenny Zeng, co-head of Asia Pacific fixed income and a portfolio manager at AllianceBernstein in Hong Kong.
She said that almost half of China’s high-yield property bonds were now trading at rates of more than 20%, indicating a significant risk of default for such firms and making it difficult for them to refinance future obligations.

According to CCB International analyst Lung Siufung, September was probably the worst September for industry sales in the last 20 years, adding that September and October are usually the peak months for house sales in China.
Mr. Lung noted that average contractual sales for major developers fell 28 percent in September compared to September last year, citing data from CRIC, a data source.
Individual developers have also experienced significant sales declines. Kaisa, a Hong Kong-listed company, said this week that contractual sales in September reached 5.7 billion yuan ($884.3 million). This was a 28 percent decrease from a month ago.
Evergrande, on the other hand, has previously warned of a sharp decrease in September contractual sales due to summer losses.
Junk bond prices are increasingly indicating that investors anticipate additional bond defaults by Chinese developers.
“The market is expecting the worst, and without government action, the level of difficulty priced into assets may materialize,” said Paul Lukaszewski, Asia Pacific head of corporate debt at asset management company Abrdn.
Several steps, according to Mr. Lowy of SC Lowy, may assist calm the market, including government policy easing, developers paying off maturing dollar debts as pledged, and Evergrande and Fantasia laying out realistic restructuring plans.
