With Anthony Davis sidelined for a while, the Los Angeles Lakers still need a big man with athletic ability and size. Even with Anthony Davis back, the solid big man will be useful in situations where the Lakers need a big outcome. The Los Angeles Lakers would also need more depth to increase their chances of winning the championship.

The Los Angeles Lakers have two ways to get a big man: Either they buy a good big man before the deadline or they buy someone via a buyout. With that in mind, here are the best big men for the Los Angeles Lakers.

6. DeMarcus Cousins

Shopping

DeMarcus Cousins didn’t look like a former All-Star during his time in Houston, but a few bright spots showed he still had something in the tank. In his youth, DeMarcus Cousins was considered the dominant big man. If he can offer even a fraction of that with the Lakers, he could be a good contract.

DeMarcus Cousins could be a solid contributor for the Los Angeles Lakers. He should rebound, score occasionally and make open jumpers. DeMarcus Cousins could improve the situation of the big man in Los Angeles, and a reunion between Cousins and the franchise could be in everyone’s best interest.

5. Andre Drummond

Andre Drummond could be a candidate for redemption in the near future. The Cleveland Cavaliers were looking for a trade partner who would be willing to trade during the final year of Drummond’s contract, although no trade has come to fruition at this point. If Drummond is not traded, he will likely be bought out.

Andre Drummond could be a good acquisition for the Los Angeles Lakers. Drummond is a top rebounder, perhaps the best rebounding center in the league. He is also an athletic ring announcer defensively while providing a normal inside attack. With the Los Angeles Lakers, he will have the opportunity to play on an ambitious team, making it one of the top destinations for the former All-Star.

4. Clint Capela

Los Angeles Lakers gets: Clint Capela.

Atlanta Hawks: Montrezl Harrell, Alex Caruso, Alfonso McKinney, 2027 Lakers in the first round.

Clint Capela could be a prime target for the Los Angeles Lakers. Clint Capela already has experience playing with a top superstar: He was an elite lob catcher and his chemistry with James Harden was excellent. Clint Capela can also rebound well and is an athletic shot blocker. His potential as an extra player around two superstars is incredible.

Clint Capela would only be available with a solid trade package, and the Los Angeles Lakers would have to send a future pick to get a center of Capela’s caliber. The Los Angeles Lakers would gain a top center, which would not be a high price for a team in the race.

3.  Jonas Valanciunas

Los Angeles Lakers gets: Jonas Valanciunas

Memphis Grizzlies gets it: Montrezl Harrell, Alex Caruso, Alfonso McKinney, 2027 Lakers in the first round.

Jonas Valaciunas will be an underrated target for the Los Angeles Lakers. Jonas Valanciunas is a solid center who is currently averaging 15.8 PPG and 12.0 RPG. Jonas Valanciunas is an old school center who intimidates people inside and scores with various post moves. Jonas Valanciunas could have shouldered some of the scoring burden when the Lakers’ two superstars were absent.

Jonas Valanciunas would get a solid trade offer, similar to Clint Capela. Jonas Valanciunas will add a solid veteran to the team, and a player who can raise the team’s ceiling. It’s also a good deal for the Grizzlies, who want to rebuild.

2. Lauri Markkanen

Los Angeles Lakers gets: Lauri Markkanen

Chicago Bulls Reception: Alex Caruso, Talen Horton-Tucker, 2027 Lakers first-round pick.

Lauri Markkanen is a young player who will be a big help for the Los Angeles Lakers. Lauri Markkanen showed his all-around game this season against the Chicago Bulls. He averaged 18.3 PPG and 5.8 RPG while shooting 40.5% from three-point range. His ability to take up space would be useful when playing around two superstars, and would give the Los Angeles Lakers another big man.

Lauri Markkanen could be a solid third option offensively, and he could be a key target right now, but also a future candidate. Markkanen could ask for a big contract from the Chicago Bulls, meaning they could potentially trade him. The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly giving up a young aspirant in Talen Horton-Tucker, as well as Alex Caruso and a future pick. Although Horton Tucker and Caruso are free agents for the summer, the Chicago Bulls may still pursue them. It seems like a fair trade for both teams.

1. LaMarcus Aldridge

Los Angeles Lakers gets: LaMarcus Aldridge.

Reception in San Antonio: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell, Wesley Matthews.

LaMarcus Aldridge hasn’t had a great season this year. But that was just last season, when he averaged 18.9 PPG and 7.4 RPG, while being good from the field (38.9% 3-point shots). It was recently announced that Aldridge and the San Antonio Spurs would be parting ways. If it’s possible that LaMarcus Aldridge chooses to trade down, the Los Angeles Lakers could put together a trade package to ensure their chances of acquiring him.

There are several transactions that could potentially work for LaMarcus Aldridge, but the one that makes the most sense would involve Montrezl Harrell. Harrell is a big man coming into his prime, and he could be good for the San Antonio Spurs. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Wesley Matthews are solid 3 and D players who would help many rosters. This is a great trade offer before the end of the Spurs’ contract, giving the Los Angeles Lakers another great player to help them win a championship.
