Vanderbilt sophomore Jack Leiter was once again unapproachable Friday night in Columbia, Missouri.

But with a future as bright as Leiter’s, pitch counts come into play, and although Leiter had another no-hitter after seven innings, Vanderbilt pulled him to the side as the Commodores took an 11-run lead into the eighth inning.

Leiter threw 101 innings Friday, bringing his total to 225 in his last two starts. He finished the game with 10 strikeouts and allowed just two walks in an 11-3 win for Vanderbilt. Nothing more came until the final out, but Missouri’s Tre Morris hit a single to right that led to a three-run rally.

Leiter’s 16-inning scoreless streak was threatened early on against the Tigers, but left fielder Cooper Davis backed him up.

Leiter’s next start will likely be against LSU (#21), where he will try to continue his impressive start in the SEC.
