Love and James, who would be coming off of a much-publicized drama in Cleveland, have a tremendous amount of chemistry together—they are the two best players in the NBA and can create incredible mismatches for opposing defenses to contend with.

The Lakers are reportedly looking to sign Kyrie Irving, who will command a maximum contract. Although Love will cost more than Irving will, the Lakers have enough cap space to sign both players. It’s a bold move for the Lakers to make, but it’s one that could make them true contenders in the Western Conference.

Kyle Kuzma is not on the Lakers’ radar, and they could risk sacrificing Caldwell-Pope and Talen Horton-Tucker to acquire budding All-Star Collin Sexton and 5-time All-Star Kevin Love. Sexton was immediately the best player in the deal, averaging 24.3 PPG during the season, and he could be an immediate offensive lineman to take the pressure off of James and Davis during the season. Kevin Love is nowhere near the player he once was, but he played with LeBron in Cleveland and can score better than anyone on the Lakers (37.0% career 3-point shots). With a strong team that features 4 All-Star players, the Lakers will be the best team in the West.

Kyle Kuzma became an average player a year ago with 18.7 PPG and can still play inside and out as a versatile forward. Horton-Tucker is so valuable that the Lakers, in danger of losing their hopes of a title this season, don’t want to trade him for former NBA champion Kyle Lowry. Sexton is more than a decade younger than Lowry and has a higher ceiling as an offensive talent, and he could persuade the Lakers to let Horton-Tucker go. Kentavius Caldwell-Pope is a sharpshooter who will improve Cleveland’s offense and be a two-way player alongside Garland.
