Paso Robles city officials have been busy the last two weeks, after a city council meeting to discuss the city manager’s position on Feb. 4. Former city manager Jim Dargan was fired on Jan. 19, and the city council created a search committee of council members and city staff to find a replacement.

Paso Robles city council has named a new city manager.

ROBLES PASO — The Paso Robles City Council is happy to announce that Ty Lewis, the current Paso Robles Police Chief, has received a conditional offer of employment for the job of City Manager.

The appointment is set to take place at the next City Council meeting on August 17th. Lewis was chosen after a thorough national search and selection process including community people, city officials, and the City Council.

Lewis is now the Chief of Police of Paso Robles, a position he has held for three years. Lewis has worked for the City of Paso Robles Police Department for over 20 years, holding different ranks and responsibilities. Prior to this, he worked for the Porterville and Bakersfield police departments for six years. Lewis spearheaded numerous projects to improve community safety and the quality of life for Paso Roblans throughout his tenure with the city, including:

  • Improving the City’s emergency communications and computer systems

“The City Manager job is essential to the present and future operations of the City,” stated Paso Robles Mayor Steve Martin in justifying the decision. With the assistance of community members, the City Council undertook a thorough search for the best candidate. We talked with a number of qualified candidates before deciding that Ty was the greatest match for the organization’s requirements. He has shown his leadership and communication abilities, as well as his understanding of Paso Robles’ unique problems and characteristics. He analyzes data to make choices, and most importantly, he has a deep desire to serve Paso Robles to the best of his ability.”

“I am pleased that our Police Chief Ty Lewis has accepted the job of Paso Robles City Manager,” Mayor Pro Tem John Hamon said when questioned about the decision. He has been a member of our executive team for many years and has proved himself to be a trusted and recognized leader of our biggest municipal department. I am certain that his conservative approach to city administration, based on goal-setting metrics, will guide our city into the future that our citizens and City Council want. Our Roblans know him, and more importantly, he knows Paso Robles.”

“I am pleased and humbled to be invited to serve as Paso Robles’ future City Manager,” Lewis replied. I’ve worked in government for my whole career, 20 of them in Paso Robles. Our town has many economic, social, and political problems, and I am honored to have been asked to assist in leading and guiding our community into the future. I appreciate the City Council’s and the community’s faith in me. I’m looking forward to working with our organization’s 250 ladies and men who contribute to make our city unlike any other!”

Lewis will be given a yearly salary of $221,000 and will begin his new job on Monday, August 20.
