This fall, “The Addams Family” will be getting a 4K Ultra HD simulcast. The film is being released on 4K Blu-ray in October and on 4K Ultra HD in November. The extended cut of the film has been digitally remastered in 4K, but fans can also look forward to the release of the new digital restoration of the film, which is being released on 4K Ultra HD.
If you think about it, the Addams Family is one of the greatest family sitcoms of all time, and the 4K version was the first we’d seen in high-definition. Now, the show will live on even longer, as Paramount Home Media Distribution has unveiled an extended cut of the film. The new version will be released on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and Digital HD for $19.99 on September 13, the same month the show’s original episode to air on Fox.
This autumn, an expanded edit of The Addams Family will be released in 4K Ultra HD. The Addams Family will be shown in both the original theatrical version and a never-before-seen “More Mamushka!” version, which “expands the famous dance routine” with Addams siblings Gomez (Raul Julia) and Fester, under the supervision of director Barry Sonnenfeld (Christopher Lloyd).
A brand-new featurette looking back at the making of the film, including behind-the-scenes footage and a new interview with Sonnenfeld, is included on the Digital 4K Ultra HD, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc, and Blu-ray releases, as well as an introduction to the restored cut by Sonnenfeld and an archival featurette. Director Barry Sonnenfeld provides an introduction to the “More Mamushka!” edition, as well as a Filmmaker Focus: Barry Sonnenfeld on The Addams Family featurette, all of which are unique to the new release.

The iconic Mamushka moment in The Addams Family originally featured a much longer dance scene, and this new 4K Ultra HD version will restore the film to the way Sonnenfeld intended it to be viewed. The Mamushka sequence had allegedly elicited unfavorable responses during test screenings before to the film’s release, forcing the material to be substantially cut. However, many fans complained that the scene was too short when it was released.
Last month, Sonnfeld said, “We’re working on a 4K edition of the original Addams Family.” “We’re reinstalling the entire’mamushka.’ In the middle, there was a huge song and dance performance composed by Adolph Green, Marc Shaiman, and Betty Comden. That’s wonderful because we had chopped it in half and are now restoring the full-length version.”
Meanwhile, the franchise has continued to thrive via many iterations throughout the years. Following the popularity of The Addams Family: The Animated Series, which was launched in 2019, an official sequel will be published in October. Tim Burton is also working on a live-action remake of The Addams Family for television, which would follow an older Wednesday Addams as she utilizes her uncanny powers to solve mysteries. Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega, Luis Guzman, and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Gomez and Morticia, respectively.
