Do not underestimate this virus and let your desire to share with your friends in person outweigh the safety measures taken to save lives, said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of public health. Like many locals, I’m cheering for the Rams in the playoffs and grateful to be able to see the basketball games again, but we can’t make the same mistakes we did last year. There have been too many meetings, screenings and celebrations with others that have contributed to the increase in cases; the result will be disastrous for our health care system if we do not follow the rules.

Of the 288 new deaths reported, 100 were older than 80 years, 106 were between 65 and 79 years, 61 were between 50 and 64 years, 17 were between 30 and 49 years and two were between 18 and 29 years.

In the past seven days, 1,606 people have died as a result of VIDOC-19, an average of 230 deaths per day.

On Tuesday, 7,926 COVID-19 patients were admitted to the hospital, of which 22% were treated in the intensive care unit.

Health officials said that while hospital admissions for VIDOC-19 have stabilized at just under 8,000 patients in recent days, demand from the local health system and hospitals continues to fluctuate.

POWERFUL : Opening of mass vaccination clinics in Los Angeles as immunization slowly progresses.

In the movie Martin Luther King Jr… Community Hospital in South Los Angeles has treated more than 200 patients at this facility, which normally has only 131 beds. To cope with the surge, beds have been installed in the hallways, the prayer room and the former gift shop.

We’ve had the misfortune of this disease spreading in families, and too often we see multiple family members, says Dr. Jason Prasso, the hospital’s respirologist. We’re working at 100% capacity.

But the light at the end of the tunnel, the two approved KOVID-19 vaccines, are simply not being adopted fast enough. Although the state received 2.5 million cans, it used only a third of them.

We are piloting the plan as it is being created, says Dr. Oliver Brooks, Chief Medical Officer of Watts Healthcare Corporation.

Brooks, who sits on the state Vaccine Advisory Committee, said while people generally go to hospitals for immunization, the outbreak has made that more difficult, although he believes the new mass vaccination sites will help increase the number of people vaccinated.

Health officials said that from 3 to 11. In January, a total of 83 citations were issued to businesses, including restaurants, gyms, personal care facilities, hair salons, places of worship and shopping centers, for failing to comply with local health ordinances.

Since August, the Department of Health has issued a total of 613 citations, which can result in fines of up to $1,000 per incident. A list of non-compliant businesses that have received subpoenas is available online.

With test results available for nearly 5,048,000 people, the overall positivity rate for the county was 18%.
