We could hardly contain our excitement when we heard that the action-packed trailer for the new Mortal Kombat movie is just a few days away. HBO Max releases a teaser-filled trailer for the upcoming 2021 release, featuring scenes with Sub-Zero and Sonya Blade, as well as scenes where Scorpion finishes off Badass!

Last year, Warner Bros. Pictures announced that instead of repeatedly delaying the release of promising films due to the pandemic, they would now release their 2,021 scheduled films in theaters and on their HBO Max streaming platform on the same day. In lieu of this controversial decision, a new trailer was released featuring footage from the 2021 Rooster films.

REMEMBER: The trailer for “Death Bomber” will finally be released in February.

While the trailer has a lot to offer (we’ll get to that in a moment), our attention is caught by the brand new scenes from the upcoming reboot of Mortal Kombat, scheduled for release on April 16. While the upcoming trailer certainly paints the best picture of what we can expect from the film, these mini-teasers are still enough to get our adrenaline flowing, as they include brief but exciting scenes of Scorpio, played by Hiroyuki Sanada, engaged in a fight with members of the Chinese hitman clan Lin Kuei, of which Sub-Zero is also a member.

Speaking of Sub-Zero, in addition to the already released character teaser, we also see him hatching new problems in the trailer. We also see Sonya Blade pointing to a poster that says “Mortal Kombat” and moments before that we see her and other fighters climbing the hill.

In addition to Mortal Kombat, the new HBO Max trailer features new scenes from nearly every film that will hit theaters in 2021, including short clips from James Gunn’s Suicide Squad. There’s Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn wreaking havoc, a slow-motion team scene, Idris Elba’s Bloodsport looking confused and bloody after what appears to be an intense fight, then confronting John Cena’s Peacemaker for his dislike of “show-off,” followed by Harley’s escape from a building that’s about to collapse. Oooh, it looks like the super villains are in big trouble!

The trailer also includes a first look at David Chase’s prequel, Many Saints of Newark, featuring James Gandolfini’s son, Michael Gandolfini, in a younger version of his father’s famous character, the gangster Tony Soprano. You’ll also see an extended shot of Space Jam 2 with LeBron James, a short scene from Lin-Manuel’s musical Miranda In The Heights with Will Smith as King Richard, the father and coach of Venus and Serena Williams, some glimpses of the new subtitle of Conjuring The Devil Made Me Do It, and a look at Hugh Jackman in the upcoming sci-fi film Memories.

The trailer also features footage from James Wan’s horror film Malignant and Clint Eastwood’s new film Cry Macho. The trailer also includes short scenes from Jared Leto’s Little Things, Judas and the Black Messiah, Godzilla vs. Kong (whose release date has been delayed), Tom & Jerry and Those Who Wish Me Dead. Interestingly, the trailer begins with old footage of Dune, as director Dennis Villeneuve expressed his displeasure with the simultaneous release of his film on HBO Max and in Warner Bros. theaters, but it seems Dune is still on the list.

There are no images of Matrix 4 in the trailer, but the title card shown at the very end simply states Matrix. Is this a confirmed title? As previously announced, all of these WB films will be viewable on HBO Max for one month after release, at no additional cost to subscribers. You can watch the trailer for HBO Max here.
