Well, the Mets have lost their last two games to the Atlanta Braves, and one major reason why is Jacob deGrom, who is out to prove he should be the team’s ace and a starter in the All-Star Game. On Sunday, deGrom was pretty pleased with his performance, striking out eight batters and allowing three hits in seven scoreless innings. He walked two and gave up just one run, and his ERA currently sits at 1.65. But, deGrom took things a step further on Tuesday night, pitching seven innings of one-hit ball with seven strikeouts and no walks. He is now 12-0 during the month of July, and he has given up just three runs in his last 18 innings.

As a New York Mets fan, you have undoubtedly heard the name Jacob deGrom. He is the ace of the Mets pitching staff, and currently leads the National League with 17 wins and a 2.45 ERA.

Jacob deGrom announced Wednesday that he will not play in the All-Star Game at Coors Field. Instead, he will spend time with his family and be rested for the return game.

I’ve been thinking about it, and obviously it’s an honor to be selected to the All-Star Game, but I’m just going to enjoy this time, spend it with my family and get in shape for the second half of the season, the New York Mets ace said after pitching seven innings in a tie game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.

DeGrom, the only Mets player selected to the All-Star first team, urged teammate Taijuan Walker to take his place in the game.

He deserved to go 100 percent, deGrom said of Walker, who was 7-3 with a 2.44 ERA in his first season with the Mets.

DeGrom’s ERA rose to 1.08 after he allowed two solo home runs against the Brewers on Wednesday. He struckout 10 batters and reached the 1.500 strikeout mark in his career. He is the second-fastest player in Major League history to reach the 1,500 strikeout mark. He did so in his 198th year. career game, one less than Yu Darvish, who reached the milestone in his 197th career game. DeGrom also leads the Major Leagues with 146 strikeouts.

If deGrom doesn’t pitch before the All-Star break, his 1.08 ERA would be the second-lowest ERA at the All-Star break since it began in 1933 (minimum 10 starts), according to ESPN Stats & Information. Bob Gibson had a 1.06 ERA at the All-Star break in 1968, the year he was MVP, and finished with a 1.12 ERA.

When asked if he felt compelled to represent the National League in Colorado after a dominant first half of the season, deGrom (7-2) said he thought about it but didn’t think it was beneficial for me to go to Colorado and come back.

The NL’s Cy Young double missed on the 28th. April to the 9th. May play one game due to discomfort in his right big muscle and then threw to 25. May did not and spent time on the injury list with what the Mets called a strain in his right side. DeGrom left his game against San Diego on the 11th. June after six innings due to flexor tendonitis in his right hand.

I think that’s Jake’s mentality – he just wants to be with his team and he wants to do well for his team, Mets manager Luis Rojas said. With everything that’s happened this season, I think he’s wondering if he’s going to pitch, pitch here.

DeGrom would have settled for the loss on Wednesday until Jose Peraza hit a home run off Brewers’ Josh Hader in the bottom of the seventh inning. It was the first unsuccessful save of the season for the shutout since he converted his first 20 chances. In the first game of the doubleheader, the Mets won again in the eighth inning, 4-3.

DeGrom was scheduled to play Tuesday night and Sunday, but his performance on Tuesday was interrupted by rain, so his performance was rescheduled for Wednesday. It’s unclear if DeGrom will continue playing on short rest Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The right guard said he might be able to go to the field, but that decision will be made in a week.

Whether he’s a starter or not, deGrom said it would be better for him and the Mets if he didn’t play in the All-Star Game.

It’s better for me and the team if I don’t rest in the second half, he said.
