The Patriots have lost another starter to injury. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Patriots linebacker Raekwon McMillan is out for the year after tearing his ACL. McMillan was injured in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. The team announced the news Monday afternoon.
After missing the entire 2017 season with a torn ACL suffered during preseason, Patriots linebacker Raekwon McMillan has been placed on injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday. McMillan will be out for the remainder of the season. McMillan tore his ACL during a joint practice with the Baltimore Ravens back in August, missing the entire year. In his four years in New England, the linebacker was a key contributor, recording 442 tackles (third among Patriots linebackers), 3.5 sacks, five interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.
The Patriots released a statement announcing that rookie linebacker Raekwon McMillan will be out for the year with a torn ACL. This is a huge blow to the Patriots defense. The team has already had to endure the loss of stars like Dont’a Hightower and Jonathan Freeny, and now they will have to try and get by without their rookie linebacker. The good news is that the team has depth in the position with veterans Kyle Van Noy and Elandon Roberts, so it should be able to overcome this loss and get back to the dominant defense they were a year ago.

On Saturday, the New England Patriots suffered a major blow to their defensive line. According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, promising 25-year-old inside linebacker Raekwon McMillan tore his ACL and will miss the whole 2021 season. McMillan will be put on injured reserve as a result of his injury.
McMillan was injured while working in punt coverage, according to reports. McMillan has gone down this path before, but this is the second time he has done so.
In his first season, he too tore his ACL, although it was in the other knee.
Bill Belichick had been impressed with Raekwon McMillan’s performance.
McMillan was signed to a one-year, $1.15 million contract by the Patriots in March. Because the Patriots acquired so much talent over the summer, it was obvious that McMillan would have to stand out if he wanted to make the club. Before the injury, he had been doing it throughout OTAs and training camp.
McMillan had already had his head coach’s attention, according to Reiss, who also used a Bill Belichick reference.
McMillan was a standout performance during practice this past Monday, with two pass breakups. He was also complimented by Belichick, who said, “I’ve been extremely pleased with his intellect, his work ethic.” Every day, he’s locked up.”
Now he’ll have to go through another rehab and perhaps an uphill battle to join the roster next season.
Cassh Maluia is a character in the film Cassh Maluia was signed by the Patriots to replace McMillan.
Due to McMillan’s injury, another linebacker was able to take his place.
Cassh Maluia, whom the Patriots selected in 2020, has been re-signed by the club. Before being released earlier this year, Maluia spent time on the Patriots’ practice squad and was even active for a few games.
Maluia’s agility and tenacity seem to make him a good match as a special teams player, but he lacks McMillan’s potential.
Still, it’s encouraging to see him receive another chance to make an NFL squad. Despite McMillan’s absence for the season, the Patriots seem to have a strong linebacker depth chart.
According to Patriots cap analyst Miguel Benzan, the team’s current linebacker corps looks like this:
- There isn’t a Hightower.
- Matthew Judon (Matthew Judon) is
- Kyle Van Noy is a character in the film Kyle Van Noy
- Uche Josh
- McMillan, Raekwon (IR)
- Harvey Langi is a character in the film Harvey Langi
- Jennings, Anfernee
- Bentley, Ja’whaun
- Terez Hall is a fictional character created by Terez Hall (PUP)
- Ronnie Perkins is a musician who is well-known for his
- Cameron McGrone is a writer and a musician (NFI)
- Cassh Maluia
Hightower, Judon, Van Noy, and Uche are the guys on that list who are most expected to play significant snaps in 2021. Bentley and Jennings are two guys that the Patriots would want to see turn the turnaround. This is particularly true for Bentley, whose playing time was expected to be jeopardized if McMillan’s hot streak extended.
Perkins is also listed as a linebacker on Benzan’s roster, although it’s unclear if he’ll get more time on the line.
Chase Winovich, who has yet to participate in training camp, is also not on the list. McMillan is an edge defender, thus his absence shouldn’t have an effect on his numbers.
