LA Clippers say ‘no concern’ despite falling into 0-2 hole to Dallas Mavericks

The Los Angeles Clippers may have broken a record for the most losses to start a season, but that is not what the team is discussing after its afternoon shoot around. “We’re in a pretty good rhythm right now,” Clippers forward Blake Griffin said. “I’m not too worried about it. “We’ve got to figure it out, and we will.”

The LA Clippers, who showed some capable resilience in last year’s playoffs, entered the 2017-18 NBA season with high hopes. But, the Clippers have made a slow start to the season, and the team is now sitting in a 2-2 hole to the Dallas Mavericks. Clippers superfan and captain Chris Paul seems to be in a funk, sharing his frustration on social media and even going as far as to say the team “isn’t ready”, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. What’s more, the team is on the verge of falling into a 3-game losing streak, which would be its longest since 2015.

The Los Angeles Clippers have been an entertaining and successful team in recent seasons, but their hopes of going deep into the playoffs are certainly fading. For the second straight year, they are facing a 0-2 deficit when the series shifts to Los Angeles.. Read more about owner of the dallas mavericks and let us know what you think.LOS ANGELES – After Tim Hardaway Jr. made a three-pointer for the Dallas Mavericks and left the Staples Center breathless, Luka Doncic waved to the crowd on the court and then let out a shriek.

For the second consecutive game, the Los Angeles Clippers were unable to stop Doncic and the Mavs, and are now two defeats away from what would have been a great finish to the season. Doncic had 39 points, seven assists and seven rebounds, and Hardaway added 28 points. The Mavs crushed the Clippers and gave Dallas a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

The Clippers have lost five playoff games in a row since last season, when they lost 3-1 to the Denver Nuggets in epic fashion in the second round. Regardless, Paul George said the Clippers are not panicking.

That’s not the case, George said, when asked about the team’s anxiety after losing their first two home games. It’s a competition. We have to deal with this. Here’s the thing: If we don’t, we’re screwed. There is no level of fear.

We just have to play our game, we have to go for it. We need to set up our defense. Luca will have his touches. We just need to play better defense to keep everyone happy.

If the Clippers’ defense doesn’t respond, Ty Lue’s team could once again prematurely quash any hopes of winning the division. The Clippers entered the postseason with a lot of pressure to turn around last season’s debacle and live up to the enormous expectations placed on this team.

But despite resting key players and losing their final two regular season games to secure a playoff spot, the Clippers are desperately trying to keep their season from falling apart in Game 3 in Dallas.

I’m not worried, Liu said. We have to win four games, and if you go out there and make a play, there’s no pressure to make shots. You’re just trying to come in and steal a game, steal two games. But now they have to go home and continue the same shooting. It’s easy to get started and without any pressure. We’ll see in the third game.

The Mavericks converted 58.5% of their shots from the field and made 18 of 34 (52.9%) three-point attempts. Kawhi Leonard limited the Clippers to 30 of his 41 points in the first half of this game, the most ever in a playoff game.

George contributed 28 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. But Doncic took it well with 31 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in the first game. And after the Clippers cut a 14-point lead to 120-116 in the fourth quarter, Hardaway hit a 3-pointer with 1:03 to go to stop the Clippers’ desperate run.

It’s not magic, Leonard said of what the Clippers need to do to face Dallas. We should go out there and play basketball. Stop. That’s the essence of the game right now. They shot too much in the first two games and we have to help each other. Too many direct passes, dunks, layups. We have to take our hats off to the defense.

If the Clippers don’t find a way to slow down the Mavericks, they might not return to Staples Center for Game 5. Immediately after the siren sounded for the second game, Leonard walked off the field and clapped his hands to encourage his team to stay positive despite the 2-0 loss.

We just need to make sure we stay balanced, you know what I mean? This is playoff basketball, you have to understand that. You have to find a solution.

Leonard added: You just have to stay focused and make sure you don’t lose sight of the prize.

The Mavericks have the confidence and momentum to head home. The Clippers now have a few days to regroup and find a way to keep their hopes for the title alive, as the pressure will only mount.

They are the most dangerous team, George said of the underdog team that gains confidence and plays freely. I’m sure everyone expected us to win. They were underdogs, and when you’re at the bottom of the standings you don’t have high expectations, so they played freely and with confidence.

I think we gave them too much confidence, we need to nip this in the bud.

Malaria Vaccine From Oxford Is The Most Effective One Ever Made!

Scientists from Oxford University are launching a world-first trial of an experimental vaccine for malaria that could have a dramatic effect on the disease. The vaccine, which will target the Plasmodium parasites that cause the disease, has been likened to a “magic bullet” and is said to be the most effective ever made in terms of reducing the number of people who are infected with and die from the disease.

malaria is a deadly disease that infects around 300 million people per year, most of them children in Africa. It kills more than 600,000 people every year, mostly African children. In fact, one in eight African children die from malaria.

The past few months have seen a surge in the number of cases of malaria in the Americas, with the worst outbreaks taking place in Brazil and Colombia. The disease is caused by the bite of the mosquito infected with the malaria parasite. It is spread by mosquitoes, and the disease kills about one million people every year.

A malaria vaccine with 77% efficacy in trials – the highest yet – offers hope against a disease that kills 400,000 people every year, a large percentage of them children.

Oxford malaria vaccine brings new hope

Adrian Hill, of Oxford University, and his partners hope the vaccine will be licensed for use within the next two years. They build on the speed and practice gained from the rapid improvement of coronavirus vaccines – the researchers are also working on the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine Covid. Since our commercial partner, the Serum Institute of India, will produce 200 million doses a year in the next few years, the vaccine, if approved, could have a significant impact on general well-being, he told PA News Bureau. Hill hopes the vaccine will be approved soon after the final preliminary results, which he says the team will present in a year.

However, a year ago, four times as many people in Africa died from malaria as from coronaviruses, he added. No one briefly addressed the question of whether the coronavirus should be tested and approved for use in emergency situations in Africa – clearly yes, soon. So why shouldn’t a disease that mainly kills children, rather than established individuals killing large numbers of people, be approved for emergency use in Africa?

The main logical report on malaria vaccines was published in 1910, the first preliminary malaria vaccine trials were conducted in the 1940s, and 140 malaria vaccines have been clinically tested. Slope says there’s no shortage of challenges, but they’ve been unfathomably dull lately. I’ve been working on malaria vaccines since 1994 – that’s not 111 years, but it does feel like something at times, he said. The World Health Organization (WHO) aims for 75% malaria vaccine efficacy by 2030, and the new vaccine will quickly reach that level. It’s extraordinary, fabulous. We saw significant results after the half-year results a year ago and we were excited, Hill said.

Charlemagne Ouedraogo, a welfare pastor in Burkina Faso, told PA: Malaria is one of the main causes of death among young people in Africa. We are supporting trials of a new vaccine in Burkina Faso, and this new information suggests that the approval of a useful new malaria vaccine could be within a few years. An initial randomized, controlled, double-blind study for people with visual impairment was conducted by the Nanoro Clinical Research Unit and the Burkina Faso Health Sciences Research Institute.

The 450 participants, aged 5 to 17 months, were divided into three groups, with the first two groups receiving either a low or high dose of the candidate vaccine. The third group received rabies vaccination as a control group. Doses were sent from early May 2019 to early August 2019, largely before the peak of the malaria season. The study reported vaccine efficacy of 77% in the high-dose group and 71% in the low-dose group after a follow-up period of more than one year. The researchers found no real side effects associated with the vaccine.

Coaches still questioning controversial decision to cancel NCAA women’s golf regional

For years, the NCAA tournament has been the pinnacle of collegiate athletics. The fact that the NCAA has had women’s golf play unofficial for the last several years, and recently discontinued the tournament altogether, has created a firestorm of controversy. Some college golf coaches have said that they feel they were betrayed by the NCAA, while others have felt that it was the right decision.

On April 10, the NCAA announced it would cancel a women’s golf regional, originally scheduled for April 13-15 at the LaSalle Golf Links in northern Illinois, due to inclement weather that was likely to hit the area that weekend. The decision came after the Big Ten Conference, which sends its women’s golf championship to the golf course that weekend, announced that it would not reschedule the event. The University of Wisconsin, which was scheduled to host the regional, offered to take the event, but the NCAA and the Big Ten declined.

The NCAA men’s golf regional was in deep trouble, but with one last round to play, it looked like it might still make it to the national championship. The women’s golf regional was cancelled. The NCAA did that. About a month earlier, it had also cancelled a men’s tournament at the same venue, on the same day, for the same reason. It did the same thing with the same “unforeseen circumstances” after the NCAA women’s tournament at the same course was cancelled. The women’s final round was supposed to take place at the same time as the men’s final round. The NCAA did not allow that to happen.

When the NCAA committee decided Wednesday to cancel the women’s regional golf tournament in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, coaches and players were stunned by the way the decision was made.

The University Club golf course received 7 inches of rain in three days and there was water on some holes and in the bunkers all over the course. NCAA committee representative Brad Hurlbut said the field was playable, but not at championship level, leaving coaches wondering what exactly that meant.

I’ve never seen anything like it. I played golf professionally. I have participated in NCAA regional tournaments as a player. I trained him. I played in the U.S. Amateur and I’ve never seen anything like it, said Brandt Kishnick, coach of the Sam Houston women’s golf team. It was a committee and a rules commissioner, and I don’t know why they came to that conclusion, but it’s confusing.

Miami coach Patti Rizzo told SportsCenter on Thursday that she doesn’t like to see the girls in such a tense state.

It should be a memorable and exciting event, said Rizzo, who added that the players were in tears and confused by the decision. It’s a really sad situation.

The teams played a practice round Sunday in dry field conditions. On Monday morning, the first day of the tournament, it was raining and play was suspended at 11:30 a.m. ET.

According to Kieschnick, the sun came out from noon on Monday and there was sunlight until eight o’clock, which would have allowed for later play. However, that option was not discussed, and Kieschnick did not see a maintenance crew trying to get the golf course ready for play.

A similar scenario played out on Tuesday, although the teams got to practice on the field later in the day.

I went around the field a bit; it was playable. The water has receded a bit; we may have to change one hole from par-4 to par-3, Kishnick said. Several of us coaches came to the committee in the middle of the day with questions and said: What can we do for the game? We’ll do whatever it takes.

The coaches have been informed that the bunkers on the course are a problem because the standing water makes them unplayable. The game officials had the ability to mark bunkers that were not playable, thus relieving the players when their ball got into the marked area.

I specifically asked the rules guy why we can’t play what we need to play, Kieschnick said. The answer was: We think that if you don’t play the bunkers, you won’t be the right champion. I said: You have every right to make repairs to this property, after all that is your opinion. You don’t know if that’s the right champion or not, it’s an opinion.

A dozen coaches from the participating teams visited the game committee Tuesday to get some questions answered. The goal was to determine if it was possible to resume golfing and host the tournament before Thursday’s deadline.

The coaches were baffled by the fact that bunkers and standing water were presented as a major problem, but they saw no effort to clean up the water or restore the course. According to Kiesznik and another source, there were no pumps on site to pump water out of the field.

A great coach once said: If the bunkers are the problem, and you’re not doing anything about it, then we need to leave now, Kieschnick said. That was Tuesday. They didn’t want to remove the bunkers, but that happens all the time and we can do it. If the problem is with the bunkers and nothing is done, that is very hard to swallow. It was strange.

Wednesday morning the departure of the teams was delayed, postponed until 10 o’clock and then until 11 o’clock, with no news from the committee.

Kieschnick and several other coaches went to the clubhouse to try to talk to committee members, but they could not reach them and had no communication with them until the final decision to end the tournament was announced Wednesday.

He contacted the NCAA Tuesday night to ask what could be done; he sent a message Wednesday morning asking what would happen next, but got no response; and finally he and his players heard of Hurlbut’s solution.

The NCAA issued a statement Wednesday saying the committee regrets that the regional tournament could not go ahead. Since Wednesday’s game was cancelled, progress will be determined by the first ranking. This means that the best six teams will qualify: The tournament hosts are LSU, Ole Miss, Baylor, Oregon, Maryland and Alabama. The best three athletes who are not on the team will also go to nationals. They are Karen Fredgaard of Houston, Natalia Guseva of Miami and Hannah Alberto of Sam Houston.

Usually tournaments do the best they can for the game of golf, the best they can, Kieschnick said. Once it came, it was all we could do not to play. It’s not ideal to play 18 holes, but it’s better than not playing. It was a shock.

You could hear the players screaming and some crying when it was announced that the tournament had been cancelled. For some, the season is over, but they are left with questions about what could have been or what could have been done differently.

The LSU regionals in Baton Rouge were cancelled because the track was passable, but not at championship level. It’s horrible how this week has gone. ! !!! Every player has worked so hard this week and this is how we are being treated !!!! Shame!!! pic.twitter.com/Z8FGrfYKLN

– Sarah Byrne (@sarabyrne01) May 12, 2021

The NCAA said it had no further comment on the matter.

It shouldn’t disappear because it’s about the lives, the emotions, the feelings, the hard work and the hope of these children, Kieschnick said. The worst part is that these women were denied their season last year because of COVID. They worked hard, they won the first round of the playoffs, and we had a golf course that was playable, but they weren’t allowed to play.

This is the worst thing I have experienced in 15 months with a student athlete. The University of Southern California women’s golf team’s hopes to earn a national championship in March came to an end Tuesday, after the NCAA decided to cancel the regional in Gainesville, Fla.. Michael Jordan Won 10 Consecutive Scoring Titles When He Played Full Seasons From 1986 To 1998

Michael Jordan, the iconic basketball legend, recently scored his 10th NBA scoring title. He won his first five scoring titles while playing for the Chicago Bulls and the next five while playing for the Washington Wizards, and recently he won his tenth title while playing for the Charlotte Hornets. (“I’m Not a Role Model”, 1989)

Michael Jordan is one of the greatest players in NBA history. He has five NBA titles (tied with Bill Russell), six All-Star appearances, an NBA MVP award, and an NBA scoring title. He was also the youngest person to be named NBA Rookie of the Year, NBA Most Valuable Player, NBA Finals MVP, and NBA All-Star Game MVP.

“The owner of the Chicago Bulls averaged 29.4 points per game during his 10-year run with the Bulls , and he won six NBA titles in the process. The most impressive part of Jordan’s career is that he was able to keep up his level of play, seemingly playing at an even higher level, during five consecutive seasons of playing more than 70 regular-season games, from two to five years after his first retirement. Jordan’s numbers dropped off after he returned to the NBA, however, and he retired after the 1998-99 season.”

Michael Jordan is widely regarded as the greatest scorer of all time. The shooting guard leads all players in career scoring at 30.1 PPG, and he has accumulated the most scoring titles in NBA history. For the 10 straight years, he was in the league from the late 1980s to the late 1990s, he led the NBA in scoring.

That means Air Jordan has a whopping 10 scoring titles to his name. But the manner he dominated the NBA for a decade straight wasn’t even remotely ordinary. Jordan was by far the best player in the world and it makes one wonder how effective he would be if he played in today’s game. Here is the breakdown of each of Michael Jordan’s scoring titles that he won over 10 straight seasons.

1987 Season – 37.1 PPG

Michael Jordan found himself on a very weak Chicago Bulls team that lacked any offensive power outside of His Airness. Jordan led the NBA in scoring with one of the highest PPG averages in NBA history, and he was simply unstoppable. Unfortunately for Jordan, he got swept in the first round by the Boston Celtics but he still put forth an iconic regular season that included 2 61-point games.

1988 Season – 35.0 PPG

This was the season where Jordan started filling up his trophy cabinet. Even when leading the league in scoring and carrying a heavy load, Jordan competed and beat Dominique Wilkins in his second Dunk Contest victory. Of course, Jordan also won league MVP and the Defensive Player of the Year Award. Jordan would probably claim his biggest achievement was finally making it out of the first round by defeating the Cavaliers, although the Pistons would knock the Bulls out in the second round.

1989 Season – 32.5 PPG

Jordan started showing off his all-around game by averaging 8.0 RPG and 8.0 APG to go along with his 32.5 PPG. Jordan was still the best player in the NBA individually, but he lacked enough help to compete in the East. Nonetheless, Jordan defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers once again by nailing “The Shot” over Craig Ehlo. Unfortunately for MJ, he ran into the Pistons again and that ended his postseason run.

1990 Season – 33.6 PPG

Jordan was once again on top of the NBA individually except he started getting help. Phil Jackson became the head coach and Scottie Pippen began his ascent as an effective two-way wing. Jordan would go nuts on offense all season long, carrying the Bulls to a solid 55-win record. It seemed that Michael Jordan would finally get over the hump in the playoffs but once again, The Bad Boy Pistons were in the way and knocked Chicago out in the Eastern Conference Finals.

1991 Season – 31.5 PPG

This might be Michael Jordan’s greatest season in his career. He finally overcame his nemesis in the Detroit Pistons and won his first NBA championship. Michael was at his best on offense, nailing 53.9% of his shots from the field and solidifying himself as the best player who ever lived. It was hard to argue against that because his consistency cannot be compared to any player ever.

1992 Season – 30.1 PPG

In the season of “The Shrug”, Michael Jordan dominated every single one of his foes. Jordan once again shows his consistency by averaging over 30 PPG, and his unstoppable offense was the reason the Bulls made it to the NBA Finals once again. Jordan’s 35-point 1st half in Game 1 against the Portland Trail Blazers in the Finals was an indication that Air Jordan was here to stay.

1993 Season – 32.6 PPG

Michael Jordan once again dominated the league on offense, except this time his PPG average would be his highest in 3 years. Jordan and the Bulls were the face of the NBA and many expected them to complete the 3-peat. Of course, no one would stand in Jordan’s way and he would take over from the first game of the regular season until the time he sent the Phoenix Suns home in the Finals.

1996 Season – 30.4 PPG

After a difficult two years with Jordan’s brief retirement, he returned to the league and continued where he left off. Jordan led the NBA in scoring, won the All-Star Game MVP, regular-season MVP, and Finals MVP as he captured his 4th NBA championship. The fact that Jordan would return to full form despite his absence was yet another extraordinary example of why he is the best ever.

1997 Season – 29.6 PPG

For the first time since his rookie season, Michael Jordan didn’t average at least 30 PPG. But Jordan came close to his usual standard by once again leading the league in scoring and making more history in the playoffs. The “Flu Game” happened in the postseason and Michael Jordan won his 5th NBA title which once again widened the gap between him and anyone that ever played the game.

1998 Season – 28.7 PPG

Michael Jordan would average the lowest PPG scoring average in the ten years he won scoring titles, but that didn’t stop him from winning MVP and also his 6th and final NBA championship. Michael Jordan shot a relatively low 46.5% from the field, but his value for the Bulls usurped any other star in the league. It didn’t really matter if Jordan’s statistics dipped a bit because he would average over 32 PPG in the playoffs to clinch his second 3-peat.

Amazon Nears Deal to Buy Hollywood Studio MGM

This week, the online retailer Amazon.com announced that it is in final negotiations to buy the Hollywood studio MGM Studios, and the deal could be announced as soon as this week. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, and MGM CEO Gary Barber declined to say on Monday when the acquisition will be completed. “I think we’ll have a definitive announcement sometime in the next week,” he said.

This morning we learned that Amazon has made an acquisition offer to buy the Hollywood studio MGM. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon is offering around $25.50 a share for the studio, a total of $750 million.

Amazon is reportedly close to a deal to buy Hollywood studio MGM, which owns the rights to the James Bond spy franchise. If the deal goes through, it will give Amazon a new source of content that’s in addition to its growing TV and movie empire. The e-commerce giant is currently spending $4 billion on original content.

Amazon.com Inc.

AMZN 1.31%

is nearing a deal to buy the Hollywood studio MGM Holdings for almost $9 billion including debt, said people familiar with the matter, a pact that would turn a film operation founded in the silent era into a streaming asset for the e-commerce giant.

An agreement could be announced as early as this week, people close to the situation said, assuming the talks don’t fall apart at the last minute.

The deal would mark Amazon’s second-largest acquisition in history, behind its $13.7 billion deal for Whole Foods in 2017, and highlight the premium that content is commanding as streaming wars force consolidation and drive bigger players to bulk up with assets that help them compete.

The privately traded MGM was valued around $5.5 billion, including debt, last December. Its stock price has soared in recent days, from about $105 a share in mid-May, before talks were reported, to roughly $140 a share Monday morning.

The fabled movie and TV studio has long been considered in play, but hired investment banks LionTree LLC and

Morgan Stanley

late last year to begin a formal process.

News of the advanced negotiations comes just a week after

AT&T Inc.

agreed to combine its media assets with

Discovery Inc.

and form a new company, a deal that is expected to spark even further consolidation in the media space.

The talks between Amazon and MGM have been on-again, off-again since the start of this year, people close to both companies said. Amazon and MGM have been in exclusive talks in recent weeks, the people said. The MGM board was briefed on the matter Sunday night, a person close to the situation said. There are no guarantees they will ultimately reach an agreement.

An acquisition of one the most iconic entertainment brands in the world would be the most aggressive foray yet by a tech giant into Hollywood.

The studio is best known for classics like “Singin’ in the Rain,” as well as “Rocky” and “The Pink Panther.” MGM has a library of titles, including the James Bond franchise, that, in contemporary Hollywood, is most valuable as an asset that can be used to drive subscriber sign-ups to Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service.

MGM also has a TV studio whose shows include the Hulu hit “The Handmaid’s Tale” and FX’s “Fargo.” It also owns the premium pay-TV channel Epix.

MGM shares the James Bond franchise with a holding company owned by the Wilson/Broccoli family, who co-own the copyright to existing Bond movies and control the future of the franchise. The next James Bond movie, “No Time to Die,” was repeatedly delayed due to Covid-19 and is now scheduled for release in October.

While Amazon is getting a big library, the MGM classics such as “The Wizard of Oz” and “Gone with the Wind” were sold long ago along with the rest of the pre-1948 catalog and now belong to AT&T’s Warner Bros.

Forbes and The Information previously reported on Amazon’s interest in MGM.

Amazon has continued to invest billions of dollars in its film and TV operations as well as live sports to support the company’s Prime membership offering. The company is currently in production on a TV series based on “Lord of the Rings,” which has a first-season budget of $465 million.

Amazon has spent hundreds of millions of dollars acquiring would-be theatrical releases from major studios, like Paramount Pictures’ forthcoming “The Tomorrow War” starring

Chris Pratt.

It also aggressively pursued a deal to stream movies from Sony Pictures Entertainment on its service, a person familiar with that situation said. Sony Pictures ultimately ended up reaching a multiyear agreement with

Netflix Inc.

It is also continuing to invest heavily in live sports. In March, Amazon struck a long-term deal to stream the NFL’s Thursday night franchise at an average annual fee of $1.2 billion.

The MGM deal would mark the latest twist in what has been a rocky journey for the studio. In 2018, it fired then-chief executive

Gary Barber

for having preliminary conversations with

Apple Inc.

for a sale that valued the studio at more than $6 billion. Since then, MGM has had no chief executive officer, instead having an “office of the CEO” comprised of executives across the company. Its board is chaired by hedge-fund manager

Kevin Ulrich,

co-founder of New York hedge fund Anchorage Capital Group, MGM’s largest shareholder.

MGM has weighed on its long-term hedge-fund shareholders for years, several of whom got involved around 2010 with the idea that MGM’s value could be boosted through a refresh of its film and television library and that they could then exit through an initial public offering or the sale of the studio. A deal would mark a long-awaited win for Anchorage and other longtime hedge-fund holders, including Highland Capital Management LP and Davidson Kempner Capital Management LP, all of which converted their debt to equity when MGM emerged from bankruptcy in late 2010.

Should a deal be finalized between MGM and Amazon, it could heighten antitrust concerns for the technology giant, which is already at the center of multiple probes because of its size and power.

Congress, the Federal Trade Commission and the European Union, among others, have been looking into the way Amazon competes. A report last year from Congress determined that Amazon had monopoly power over its sellers. Members of Congress have publicly criticized former Amazon deals, such as its acquisition of Whole Foods, which they say should have had tougher scrutiny.

The Wall Street Journal chronicled how entrepreneurs who have held talks with Amazon’s deal-making arm felt exploited by the Seattle company. Amazon has said legitimate disputes about intellectual property are resolved in courts. Congress is expected to introduce new legislation, that if passed, would hamper the ability of technology giants to strike some large deals.

US PGA Championship: Phil Mickelson becomes oldest major winner with sixth title

Phil Mickelson, the 41-year-old American golfer, became the oldest major champion in PGA Tour history on Sunday by winning the U.S. PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

With his sixth major title and fifth career major, Phil Mickelson has claimed the US PGA Championship title at age 46, eclipsing the title mark set by Tom Watson and Nicklaus. The two-time major winner, who won the Masters in 1984 and the US Open in 1986, also became the oldest person to win a major title in the history of the PGA Tour. As he fulfilled his childhood dream of playing in the US PGA, Mickelson said, “This is absolutely amazing and I can’t believe it.”

It’s been a while since a senior player won a major. Phil Mickelson decided to add one more major to his resumé. Mickelson, who is now the oldest man to win a major, won the U.S. Open in 2008 at the age of 43. He also has five other majors, including the Masters in 1997 at the age of 41, and he won the British Open in 2005 at the age of 45.. Selected others: -1 J Rose (Eng), C Morikawa (US); +1 M Fitzpatrick (Eng), M Laird (Sco), I Poulter (Eng), H Matsuyama (Jpn); +2 J Spieth (US); +5 R McIlroy (NI)

Phil Mickelson became the oldest man to win a major title as he claimed the US PGA Championship at Kiawah Island amid extraordinary scenes as thousands of fans swarmed on to the final fairway to witness the winning moment.

It was a throwback victory for 50-year-old Mickelson and a reminder of what sport has been missing in the absence of crowds during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Spectators swamped the American as he marched up to the 18th green on his way to clinching a sixth major title, eight years after his last.

“It was quite unnerving, but exceptionally awesome. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything like that before,” said Mickelson, who won on six under par at the Ocean Course after a closing one-over 73.

He finished two clear of fellow American Brooks Koepka, who closed with a 74, and South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen, who signed for a 73.

Mickelson takes the record of oldest major winner from Julius Boros, who won this title in 1968 at the age of 48, and also joins England’s Sir Nick Faldo and American Lee Trevino as a six-time major winner. Only 11 male players have won more.

“This is just an incredible feeling. I just believed that it was possible yet everything was saying it wasn’t and I hope that others find that inspiration,” added Mickelson.

“It may take a little extra work and harder effort to maintain the physicality, or maintain the skills, but gosh is it worth it in the end.

“I just love this game and I love what I do and I love the challenge of competing against such great players.”

He will now be among the favourites at next month’s US Open, the only major he needs to become the sixth man to complete the career Grand Slam. It is being held near his home in San Diego at Torrey Pines, a course on which he has won three titles.

Ireland’s Padraig Harrington and Shane Lowry finished in a tie for fourth at two under after closing rounds of 69.

They were level with American Harry Higgs and England’s Paul Casey, who scored consistently throughout the week and posted his third 71 on Sunday.

Mickelson thrills on final day

It was a final pairing packed with potential storylines: Mickelson aiming to become the oldest major championship winner, Koepka looking for victory just two months after serious knee surgery.

In the end, it was Mickelson who controlled the narrative and held his nerve during a tense final round.

Koepka was eight months old when Mickelson claimed the first of his 45 PGA Tour titles as an amateur at the Northern Telecom Open in 1991 and 13 years later the American became a major champion with the first of his three Masters crowns.

He added to those at the 2005 PGA Championship and 2013 Open, but victory at Kiawah Island must rank as the most remarkable after dropping out of the top 100 earlier this year for the first time since 1993.

Mickelson says he has being trying to improve his concentration and stay more “present” by practising meditation and other drills to increase his focus and he needed all of that composure on a rollercoaster front nine.

He led by one overnight on seven under, but began with a bogey and when Koepka rolled in a birdie from 12 feet a two-shot swing handed the 31-year-old the lead.

But a double bogey followed for Koepka as he duffed a chip from a bank behind the second green and then watched as Mickelson clipped on before sinking a birdie putt to reclaim top spot and take a two-stroke advantage on the field.

Phil Mickelson claimed his sixth major eight years after his fifth title

Mickelson held on to the sole lead despite a bogey at three after two loose chips around the green, but only because Koepka missed a three-footer for birdie.

Then came a moment of magic from the champion, chipping in from the sand to birdie the par-three fifth and send the Kiawah Island crowd almost delirious.

Mickelson followed up with a bogey and Koepka took advantage by pulling back level, only to send a disastrous approach at seven on to the cart path on his way to another dropped shot as Mickelson got up and down for a birdie that sent him clear once more.

The veteran hit the turn with his two-stroke lead intact and increased it to four at 10 with a well-made birdie as Koepka found the sand and failed to recover.

The left-hander had a five-stroke lead at the same stage on Saturday, only to watch it evaporate over the next three holes, but not even a fan picking up his ball after a wayward drive at 11 could faze him this time as Mickelson saved par and Koepka bogeyed to drop five back, meaning Oosthuizen was once again his closest challenger.

Having avoided the water off the tee at 13, Mickelson then found it with his approach to the green and made back-to-back bogeys, though Oosthuizen dropped two shots on the same hole after also finding the water.

That meant Mickelson led by three shots with four to play.

Oosthuizen, whose sole major win came at the 2010 Open, birdied the 16th to keep the fight alive but moments later Mickelson, who turns 51 next month, hit the longest drive of any player this week on the hole – 366 yards – on his way to a birdie of his own.

Mickelson said he was having fun this week, though there was nothing enjoyable about the daunting par-three 17th, but he could afford to drop a shot and head to the 18th with a two-stroke advantage.

Up to 10,000 fans were allowed on site each day at Kiawah Island

He pushed his drive left and as he assessed his options from in front of a hospitality stand, fans started to swarm onto the fairway.

After some deliberation, he hit a nine-iron into the heart of the green, and the boisterous crowd immediately surrounded Mickelson who, with the help of officials, had to push his way through to reach the putting surface to put the finishing touches on his historic win.

Koepka was disappointed with his putting on Saturday and also missed several close-range attempts on Sunday.

He still had an outside chance of taking the tournament to a play-off on the last but had to finish amid the madness surrounding Mickelson.

“It would have been cool if I didn’t have a knee injury and got dinged a few times in the knee in that crowd,” said the four-time major champion who took a couple of extra minutes to make his way through to the green.

“It’s cool for Phil. But getting dinged a few times isn’t exactly my idea of fun.”

Harrington rolls back the years

Harrington and Lowry both posted rounds of 69 on the final day

An eagle at the par-five second and chip-in birdie on the 14th were the highlights of European Ryder Cup captain Harrington’s round as he rolled back the years to card a three-under 69 on Sunday and finish at two under par for a share of fourth place.

That is the three-time major champion’s best finish at a major since winning this event in 2008.

The 49-year-old had a terrific time playing with fellow Irishman Lowry and the Open champion also posted a 69 to finish at two under.

“I don’t think I have enjoyed a round of golf as much as I have playing with Shane,” said Harrington.

“It was amazing how relaxed I was from tee to green. When you have your head in the right place it is much easier to play good golf. It was a very nice pairing.”

Casey also shared fourth and briefly threatened to put an early run together with back-to-back birdies on two and three, but five birdies overall were offset by four bogeys as he finished four off the lead.

Justin Rose failed to break par in the opening three days but posted one of the rounds of the day with a five-under 67 that included eight birdies, a bogey and a double to leave the Englishman one under for the tournament.

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy was unable to tame the Ocean Course as he did during his 2012 victory, with the pre-tournament favourite finishing on five over par.

Jordan Spieth’s wait to complete the career Grand Slam continues after he finished at two over par, one behind Japan’s Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama, while US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau faded to three over par with a final-day 77.

A walk that will live in the memory

The US PGA Championship’s Covid-19 protocolsexternal-link for fans included “no handshakes, fist bumps, autographs, photographs or selfies”; for people attending to “respect their [players’] space and watch your distance” and “avoid unnecessary touchpoints and large crowds”. Fans who had not been vaccinated were advised to wear masks when they could not be socially distant.

But Mickelson needed a security and police escort to make his way through the jam-packed crowd of spectators to complete his historic moment.

“I’ve never had that experience and to see that, to feel that kind of excitement and enthusiasm, and be at the forefront of that, was pretty special. That’s a moment I’ll always, always cherish.”

Jon Rahm was one of several players to congratulate Mickelson after he walked off the 18th green

Love Artisanal Soaps? Make Your Own

I’ve been using artisanal soaps for years. They’re great for the skin, and they smell amazing. But, I’ve hit a personal rut in the last few years. I love them, but I’ve been finding that I’m using my soap bar up quicker than I can find them. I’ve been living in a small apartment, and I’m pretty limited with space.

At Ashline, we love the beauty of handmade soap. We also love the beauty of the handmade soap business. If you want to stay up-to-date with the latest in soap making, follow Ashline.

Artisanal soaps are so called for a reason: the makers of these soap products employ lots of time and attention in their creation. This is certainly the case with the artisans at Raw Girl Soap, who make and hand-dip every bar of their soap in their Brooklyn studio. The soap is then crafted by hand to sell in their shop in New York.

Who would have thought that good old-fashioned soap would, more than four millenniums after its invention, still be one of humankind’s most powerful tools in fighting disease? Over the past year or so, we have been reminded of this fact, and of the simple magic of hand washing, with its unequaled germ-killing (and lifesaving) powers. Which means that possessing a truly fantastic bar — sudsy, fragrant and mood elevating — is more sensible than ever. But to understand what makes a great soap, one must go back in time. There are several origin stories (most set in ancient Babylon), all of which involve the accidental (and perhaps barbecue-related) discovery that pairing wood ash with animal fat drippings (scientifically speaking: sodium or potassium hydroxide and a triglyceride) led to the miraculous chemical reaction we now call saponification, which results in a highly effective grime-removing solid.

Video

A history of modern beauty in four chapters.

Chapter 1: On the rise of strong “oriental” fragrances that reflected the political and cultural landscapes of their time, the 1980s.

Chapter 2: On ’90s-era advances in weaves, wigs and other Black hairstyles that ushered in a new age of self-expression.

Chapter 3: On botanical oils, a simple fact of life in much of the world that, here in the West, began to take on an almost religious aura in the 2000s.

Chapter 4: On men wearing makeup, a practice with a long history, but one that has really taken off in the last decade.

Until the 19th century, that winning recipe of fat and ash remained, in essence, the same. Everyone from the Syrians to the French and Spanish created their own versions: Aleppo soap was made from olive oil, wood ash and laurel berries; Marseille and Castile soap were made using Mediterranean saltwater, local olive oil and ash from singed marine plants. Some cultures used it for bathing and others for washing cloth or stripping wool of its lanolin before weaving it. In America, early colonial settlers made their own soap, primarily for laundering, until the mid-1800s, when manufacturers like William Colgate & Company in Manhattan (makers of Palmolive), and the Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble (creators of Ivory), began producing scented bars for personal hygiene, and launching advertising campaigns that would link one’s cleanliness to one’s health. From there, soap quickly became one of the fastest-growing industries in America. But as scientific developments in the field progressed around the world, it also became a chemical imitation of itself. Now, many of those shiny, perfectly creamy bars and scum-free liquid hand washes you find at the drugstore are technically detergents (synthetic reproductions of soap), which are machine-made and can contain harmful ingredients including synthetic fragrances.

But there are still craftspeople making soap the traditional way. Susan and Sarah Ryhanen, the mother-daughter team behind Saipua, whip up the most exquisite handmade bars at Worlds End, their 107-acre farm near Albany, N.Y. There, they also run an artist residency and floral business, and teach workshops on everything from flower arranging to wool and basket weaving — they plan to launch in-person soap-making classes later this year. Mixed with a blend of shea butter, olive, coconut and castor oils, Saipua’s bars are perfumed with unusual and ever-changing combinations of essential oils and other natural elements like dill and clary sage, nori and sea salt, French green clay and vetiver and coffee and mint.

Susan began concocting soap in her basement in 1997, and it is with those humble beginnings in mind that she shares with us a step-by-step guide to making your own. The below recipe is for lavender rosemary soap with oat flour — a new twist on one of her favorite bars from the Saipua archives — which can be executed in less than an hour, and renders ready-to-use soap a week or two later, once it’s had time to cure. “The oat exfoliates, and I’ve always loved the pungent smell of rosemary and lavender together,” she says. “It’s relaxing but also uplifting.” The perfect medicine for these last weeks of spring.

SAFETY NOTE:

Sodium hydroxide, or lye, is a strong base and, in its dry form, a caustic substance. Care must be used when working with it, and your measurements should be exact. It creates fumes when mixed with water, though the small amount you’ll use here is quite safe. Just don’t lean over the container, and be sure to wear your mask and gloves the whole time. When your carefully measured soap recipe is done and dry, there will be no more lye in it. While you need to be aware of safety precautions, don’t be put off by them. Soap-making is really an easy process, though I don’t recommend involving young children.

1. Measure the lye and water (water must be cold — never put lye into hot water because the heat will make it a “volcano”). Please put your glass container in a sink. This is a safety precaution: In the event that the glass breaks, the lye will go down the drain.

2. Cold water goes in the jar first. This is important! Never add water to lye. Lye has to be added to water. As soon as you add the lye to the water, mix it with your plastic spoon so it dissolves. Be aware that lye is exothermic and will generate a lot of heat (about 200 degrees) when added to the water.

3. Let the lye cool while you measure the other ingredients. These should be measured into the stainless steel saucepan, which will hold about 2-3 quarts. You need space for mixing.

4. Warm the shea butter, olive, coconut and castor oils to about 100 degrees (test the temperature with your instant-read thermometer) while the lye continues to cool.

5. When both the lye and the oils are between 90-110 degrees, add the oat flour to your essential oils, and then pour it and the lye water and oils into the saucepan and mix with your immersion blender. When it looks like pudding, pour it into your mold.

6. Let the soap harden in your mold overnight. In the morning, tear off the paper carton and cut the contents into squares with a large knife.

7. Let the soap cure (that means dry inside) for a week or two, and enjoy! You can technically use your soap earlier, but it will last longer if you let more water evaporate from it.

If you’re planning a nice relaxing bath, why not use a quality bar of soap that was made by hand, instead of the mass-produced stuff. But if you’ve never made soap before, you’ll want to read this first.. Read more about how to make natural soap and let us know what you think.

  • Students take their admit card to the examination centre and they get the entry. They have to sit in front of a computer and answer the questions by solving them on a sheet. They have several questions and they can answer the question by choosing any option from the given.
  • CBT is also a speedy way of conducting examination and announcing results. It takes less than a few minutes to check the result and the chances of human error also reduce with the CBT exam.

Due to these key reasons, most exam conducting entities are choosing computer-based test over the other forms of conducting entrance exam.

Exams Supporting CBT Mode

In India, there are several entrance exams conducted every year and it might seem like a jaw-dropping moment that only a few of those exams are CBT. If you are wondering which entrance exam courses support CBT, then this is a quick list to check out –

CBT is only a mode of examination and it is similar to other options, however, this mode of exam gained hype with the MAT entrance tests. So, after learning it, the primary question that pops into everyone mind is, what are all the types of exams? Well, don’t worry, we have the list.

Types of Exams

It doesn’t matter that you are opening for an entrance exam test or mid-term exams, there are several modes of examination tests that can help to evaluate students knowledge. The common types you can find are –

  • PBT – PBT stands for Pend Based tests and candidates have to perform the test using pen and paper. It is the traditional and widely preferred method for examination preferred around the globe. You can also find that PBT is also termed as an offline exam, however, such terms aren’t adequate, but it can help you understand the type. As there are no technologies involved while giving this examination, you can use an eraser and correct things out. You also have to worry about less hassle or computer program’s bugs.
  • CBT – A Computer-based test or CBT is the new form of test and it is widely popular for entrance exam tests. A computer is allocated at the examination centre to students and they get similar time to perform the test. As the time starts, the exam paper unlocks and students would have to solve and choose the answer. Students get a few blank sheets of paper and a pencil to solve the question and answer it on the computer.
  • IBT – IBT is slightly a different term to CBT as it stands for Internet-Based Test. Students can perform these test themselves using a computer and a working internet connection. There is no need of going to any exam centre and you can get the things done from the address of your home. Due to the covid-19 situation, most exam owners changed the way of examination to IBT for a certain time.

These are all the three different types of exam tests and you can find that PBT is slowly getting out of date among exams. You can commonly find CBT in MAT exam and learn more in-depth by reading our quick guide on MAT CBT.

This exam is available in all the modes of the test, however, MAT CBT is widely taken into consideration by the conducting body.

The dates for MAT CBT aren’t announced yet and it is claimed that the dates will be announced in July. MAT CBT is a national level entrance exam test and it is also conducted by the All India Management Association or AIMA. If you are registering for the MAT exam, you can choose any mode of examination.

The score will be announced differently for PBT, CBT and IBT exams as the difficulty level of all modes of the test is different. Candidates get the option to opt for the MAT exam in the six different modes –

  • Double-Remote proctored IBT
  • Remote Proctored IBT
  • Paper-Based Test or PBT
  • PBT+IBT
  • CBT
  • PBT+CBT
  • CBT+IBT

Considering the rest of the factors for MAT CBT, you are getting the same amount of duration for the exam. It doesn’t matter that you have opted for PBT, CBT or IBT, you will have two hours and thirty minutes to attempt and answer the exam paper.

Should You consider PBT or CBT for the entrance tests exam?

PBT and CBT are two popular options for entrance exam tests and both are adequate for the examination body to conduct exam with no cheating. However, for students, PBT and CBT might make lots of difference while answering the questions. If you are unfamiliar with Computer-based tests then it might be a tough choice to try the new form directly at the examination centre.

So, the easy solution to this problem is to opt for online CBT mock tests which will help you understand that how these exams work. You can follow the given guidelines and learn the right style. Make sure that you don’t try to cheat because trying to the minimum the exam app gives you the tag of trying to cheat and you may not give the exam.

High school basketball powerhouses form national league set to begin in 2021-22 season

The American High School Basketball Association (AHSBA) has announced they will be forming a national league in 2021-22 and will be accepting the first member schools for that season. The league will be a year-round competitive league in each of the six states included in the AHSBA:

As high school basketball continues to gain popularity, it is crucial for the game to move beyond its traditional state. High school football has done that for decades, but basketball has remained firmly entrenched in its traditional state. That is where the National Federation of High School Athletic Association (NFHS) comes in. One of the largest N.F.H.S.A. organizations, the organization is set to become the charter member of the National Federation of Independent Schools (NFIS).

The National High School Basketball Invitational League will begin play next school year, and it’ll have a global reach. The league, which will have a season and playoff format, will feature teams from the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, China, and Australia.. • Former Horizon League coach of the year at Wright State

Six of the biggest high school basketball powerhouses, including Oak Hill Academy (Virginia) and Montverde Academy (Florida), are forming an elite national league set to begin in the 2021-22 season.

The National Interscholastic Basketball Conference will feature traditional powers Oak Hill, Montverde, IMG Academy (Florida), La Lumiere School (Indiana), Sunrise Christian Academy (Kansas) and Wasatch Academy (Utah), along with two other schools yet to be announced. The eight teams will play a 10-game regular season, play in special NIBC events and hold a postseason tournament.

There are plans to potentially expand the league in coming years.

Rashid Ghazi, partner at Paragon Marketing Group, will serve as commissioner of the league, while Montverde Academy head of school Kasey Kesselring will be the chair of the board of governors.

“With games being canceled last season due to COVID, the NIBC schools created a series of contests among themselves and brought us in to help manage the events, secure sponsorship revenue and place the games on the ESPN networks,” Ghazi said. “During the course of the season, the schools realized the power of building their brands together and we worked with them over the past several months to put a formal conference together. We believe the tradition and history of the six schools combined with the expertise of Paragon creates a winning formula that will make the NIBC truly unique in the world of high school sports.

“For student-athletes who want to remain in high school and keep their options open for college or the G League post-graduation, the NIBC represents a tremendous platform that combines elite-level basketball with excellent academics in a real campus setting. These six schools have outstanding histories and helped develop countless young men to achieve their dreams of excelling in both college and professional basketball.”

Conversations began during the pandemic, when the schools needed to find competitive games for their programs. From those discussions came the NIBC Invitational, which took place in early January in the Washington area. After seeing the success of that one-off event, the schools explored ways to continue it next season.

“The impetus for it really started with, how do we try and compete and have meaningful competition in a pandemic? That was really the birth of the idea,” Kesselring said. “Why wouldn’t we continue this? The coaches have a great deal of respect for one another, the school heads have a great deal of respect for one another. Why not keep it going? We decided that moving forward, it would be very difficult to maintain that momentum by coordinating it ourselves. So we reached out to Paragon, who we all know from participating in the Geico Nationals, and started having some conversations with them to gauge their interest. That’s kind of what led us to this point of having the schools on board to create this league and sustain it.”

The NIBC, which is the first of its kind in terms of a national high school league, should be beneficial to college coaches and NBA scouts because it will showcase some of the country’s top prospects consistently playing head-to-head on a national stage.

“The NIBC is a great thing for the players and schools involved,” longtime Oak Hill coach Steve Smith said. “The best players compete against the best players, teams play the best teams nationally, and I love coaching against the best coaches in the nation. It’s a win-win for every school in the NIBC.”

The league’s six teams have combined to win the past eight national championships, with Montverde winning five times. The 2021 NCAA tournament featured 44 players who played at NIBC member schools, while 24 alums currently play in the NBA.

Cade Cunningham, the projected No. 1 pick in the 2021 NBA draft, played at Montverde, while four top-10 rising seniors currently attend member schools, led by No. 2 prospect Jalen Duren of Montverde.

“The games will be intense because of the talent level, the national platform, as well as the scouting and preparation that goes into each game,” Sunrise Christian coach Luke Barnwell said. “The standings keep everything competitive and having a postseason championship will make it even more competitive. The NIBC will help every player have a chance at playing at the next level. There is no choice but to be ready to compete because we are playing each other multiple times with something at stake.”

Best window ACs 2021 | CNN Underscored

Climate change has been well documented as one of the major issues that is playing a key role in the world today. This means that in the next few years, more and more people will start looking at the options of buying energy efficient air conditioners and window ACs. The demand for these products has been increasing in the recent years, and as a result, a lot of companies have started making new products. Some of the best window ACs are highlighted in this article to help you choose the right product to buy.  Also, the article highlights the best window air conditioners with an average price of Rs.15,000.

Window air conditioners have been around for decades, but they’ve evolved a lot since their introduction. Before, they were called wall air conditioners because they had to be mounted on a wall. These days, they’re often called window air conditioners because many are small enough to fit through a window.

If you live in a part of the world where the temperature regularly breaks the high 40’s Celsius, you know how hard it is to keep cool in the summer. If you wish to stay cool during the hot months, you need to find an air conditioner, and you need to find the best air conditioner possible. There are different types of air conditioners, such as window air conditioners, portable air conditioners, and central air conditioners. Each is more or less efficient, and each requires cleaning and maintenance differently. There are many of the best ACs for the money.

(CNN) –

A reliable air conditioner is cheaper and more convenient than a central air conditioning system, and a big step up from an oscillating fan that only blows warm air. Although they all look the same on the outside, window air conditioners have many nuances. Even those with the same cooling capacity (measured in British thermal units) differ in terms of room cooling time, features offered and ease of installation.

For a month, we tested six of the best models on the market (all with a cooling capacity of 8,000 BTU – ideal for a medium-sized room). With all the aforementioned nuances, there were ultimately two that stood out above the rest:

The U-shaped design of the Midea is not just a nice aesthetic choice. This not only makes it easy to install the unit, but also allows you to leave the compressor outside, and the window acts as a sound barrier, so it operates much more quietly than other air conditioners we’ve tested. Not only did it cool the room faster than any other air conditioner we tested, but it was also more efficient thanks to a motorized fan that automatically moves the cool air into the room. While Midea is not the cheapest option, it proved to be the best of the air conditioners we tested by a long shot.

The LG LW8016ER is a pure device. No fancy design or clever functionality here. It simply performs the basic function of any air conditioner: It cools a medium-sized room quickly and competes with much more expensive units. Priced at $279.99, the 8,000 BTU air conditioner is the perfect option for those looking for a classic air conditioner that is easy to use and cools the room efficiently.

The best window air conditioner in the world: Midea U-shaped window air conditioner ($359.99; amazon.com)

Midea’s U-shaped design, while it may seem a little gaudy at first glance, is actually an effective improvement on the classic box-shaped air conditioners we’ve seen on windows for years. This design is not just aesthetic on the surface: This also reduces the noise level and makes the situation worse.

The installation is much less cumbersome than any other window air conditioner we have installed. As with most standard air conditioners, however, you’ll need a partner to lift this 55-pound unit into place. But with Midea, you save yourself a little effort by not having to drill the traditional left and right side into the window. Simply screw the T-bracket to the bottom of the window frame, then install the unit by centering the Midea on the bracket, closing the window and installing the included insulation on each side. (Midea got bonus points for having more shapes and sizes of insulation than any air conditioner).

Because the window can be closed further and the compressor is outside, the Midea is noticeably quieter indoors; the high fan mode makes about as much noise as the low fan mode of the other air conditioners we tested. It’s simple: Reduces the input window (pun definitely implied) of sound into the room. You will hear it, but it is a slight hum at best, which is much better than the roar of most devices when the compressor is on. And to make sure our ears didn’t deceive us, we measured all the air conditioners with a decibel meter, and Midea registered the lowest value.

We were able to cool a room from 80 degrees to 68 degrees for 45 minutes in automatic mode. Most other air conditioners we tested, including our budget choice, took an hour or more to reach this level. They didn’t have to wait long for Midea to start cooling the room. This is a big plus, especially on humid nights when you don’t want to wait a minute to cool down. The compressor starts almost immediately, while with others it may take several minutes.

Cooling the Midea is facilitated by the main ventilation, a motorized damper that automatically raises and lowers to cool the entire room. It’s like being in Space Odyssey, but the cooling is more efficient because the airflow isn’t static.

Pressing the Wi-Fi button on your device will pair the Midea with a corresponding app. This is the best we’ve tested and works on both Android and iOS. Through the app, you can control the temperature, set the mode, and adjust the top airflow valve. You can even sync Midea with Amazon Alexa. So if you have an Echo or Alexa-enabled smart speaker, you can ask the Amazon assistant to turn on the air conditioner or raise the temperature.

A runner with a classic design: LG LW8016ER ($279.99; homedepot.com)

The LG LW8016ER may have an outdated housing design – no frills here – but it has everything you need in an air conditioner.

The installation is a classic window air conditioner: You install the left and right sides with four screws (two on each side), then lift the LG LW8016ER into place. Like any air conditioner, they weigh about 50-60 pounds (this LG weighs 58 pounds), so again we recommend a team lift. And you have to hold the air conditioner when you close the window from above.

Once installed, this LG air conditioner performed just as well as the smarter, more expensive air conditioners we tested. When we tested all the air conditioners, we let the room warm up to 80 degrees before turning on the air conditioner. The LW8016ER took about an hour to reach 68 degrees in automatic mode. Although this LG cools down a little slower than the Midea, it doesn’t fall short of the other models we tested.

It’s not as loud as some of the other units in our test setup, but it’s certainly not quiet, as you can hear the fan and compressor running. In our tests, it also rattled the window and frame, increasing the noise. We recommend using Eco mode at night as it is more conservative with fan speed, although it does not significantly reduce noise. As with Midea and the other air conditioners we tested, we measured the noise level with a decibel meter. LG was on the low side, but still caused more noise than Midea.

Without built-in smart features, the device’s operation is limited to a series of buttons on the LG LW8016ER or the small remote. Several modes are available, including a timer. The remote is infrared, so it has to be pointed at the air conditioner, but it’s actually pretty handy and gives access to the main controls. This is perfect if you don’t want to get out of bed to make adjustments.

Although the LG doesn’t have motorized ventilation, the main ventilation has two buttons that allow it to be adjusted up and down or sideways. It’s lighter and more flexible to use than others, allowing you to make small adjustments where air flows through: old-school functionality at its best.

Once the test group for window air conditioners was chosen, we focused on developing a test protocol based on real-world use cases. All the units we tested had 8,000 BTUs, so we could compare apples to apples.

We have divided the categories as follows:

Configuration and installation

  • Packaging: We paid attention to the quality of the packaging of the air conditioner, with proper padding and tape to prevent damage during transportation. We have also made sure that the grille is properly attached and protects the filter. We have found that most blocks contain all the necessary aspects of good insulation – including foam blocks, foam rollers and side vents.
  • Instructions: What struck us was the level of detail in the user manuals and quick start guide. How easy is it for them to successfully install the air conditioner in your window and insulate it properly? If the air conditioner has Wi-Fi, does that explain the app setting?

Design

  • Hardware design : We have checked the design and materials used in all air conditioners we have tested. Does it look like a solid metal construction or a mixture of materials? Was it easy to grab and lift the air conditioner for installation? Did the brackets feel sturdy and not wobble after installation?

Cooling

  • General cooling: Perhaps the most important part of an air conditioner, we have paid particular attention to how each air conditioner cools the room. To establish the standard, our test room started at a temperature of 80 degrees each time, and we measured the time it took for the room to cool to 68 degrees. We used different thermometers at the air conditioner ventilation and sensors in the room.
  • Modes : Does the air conditioner offer different models to choose from for cooling? Was there a custom setting?

Noise level

  • Volume: We measured the sound of the air conditioner in different modes and at different fan speeds with a decibel meter and an audio recorder. We also tried turning on the air conditioners before bed or at night.
  • Compressor sound : After the compressor was turned on for proper cooling, we measured again (with a decibel meter and an audio recorder) to determine the noise level.

Administration

  • Physical Buttons: We have listed the positions and settings that can be made directly on the air conditioner itself. Was the normal digital LED screen big and bright enough? Is there a delay between pressing the button and the change?
  • Remote control: We tested the included remote at different distances, either by pointing it at the corresponding sensor or not. We have also drawn attention to the existence of delays.
  • Intelligent control: If the air conditioner offered smart features, we tested them on multiple devices (Android and iOS). We also tested all AC connections with larger smart ecosystems like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit.

Warranty

  • We checked the length of the manufacturer’s warranty and what it covers.

LG LW8017ERSM ($379.99; amazon.com)

The smart version of our economical version has proven to be excellent. It did offer control via LG ThinQ for Android and iOS, including all basic functions and even programming, but no integration with smart home ecosystems like Midea. Even this new step did not lead to faster cooling or noise reduction.

Frigidaire FFRE083wa1 ($329.99; amazon.com)

Like the other Frigidaires air conditioners we tested, the FFRE083wa1 proved to be a compact window air conditioner with an old-fashioned design. The fan is relatively centrally located, with an accessible filter under the front grille and a compressor at the rear. It’s a modest design, but we preferred the LG’s smaller fan control. The Frigidaire FFRE083wa1 was also very noisy, making it difficult to concentrate on anything else when the appliance was on in the room.

Frigidaire FHWW083wb1 ($299.95, originally $359.99; amazon.com)

The FHWW083wb1 features the Frigidaire app for Android and iOS for smart control. The installation took longer, but in the end it was an easy way to control the air conditioning, even if it took a while. The FHWW083wb1 did not undercut the cheaper Frigidaire by cooling our test room from 80 degrees to 68 degrees in about an hour and 15 minutes. For that price, you’d be better off forgoing the smart controls and going for a quieter LG unit, or spending a little more for a better Midea unit.

Frigidaire GHWW083wb1 ($415.28, originally $449; homedepot.com)

This Gallery model from Frigidaire was the most expensive of all the models we tested, and it was able to cool the room quickly, with a time close to that of the Midea. It works with the same intelligent ecosystem as the other Frigidaire models and has a slightly richer design with softer plastic. Like LG and Midea, there is a multi-directional main vent that pushes air in one direction. And while Frigidaire claims to be the quietest appliance, LG and Midea have proven to be even quieter. It seems like you have to pay the price for a brand name with some new features, but in our test, the Midea U-verse outperformed this model in almost every area.
