Kate Garraway was overwhelmed with emotion when she remembered the moment her husband Derek Draper spoke his first word.

The TV presenter spoke with Pierce Morgan and Suzanne Reed on Monday in Good Morning in the UK about Derek’s breakthrough in recovery.

Kate shared her first thoughts when the doctors told her that Derek, 53, had suffocated the word pain, Kate told Pierce: It was a long time ago, in April, when we first spoke and I said that he seems to have survived so far, but I pray that a miracle will happen…

That may be the case, but I’m still trying to keep it together.

Every time we were told, he’d let us know if you were in pain and he’d say the word pain very clearly. It wasn’t a sound, it was a whisper.

She moved on: Later I saw him say it again.

It’s a step forward, but it’s heartbreaking because it means he’s suffering, which we don’t want.

Kate, 53, became emotional and wiped her tears away as she opened up to the controversial battle for hope, but a realistic situation with Derek.

I think it’s still there, and it’s a start, she explained.

added Mr. Pierce: It gave you a glimmer of hope, it went on, and it’s a nightmare for everyone. The way she is treated with dignity and without self-pity is inspiring.

Kate said: All the way. The power of hope is enormous, but you also try to think all the time, because you are just like when hope is real.

He breathes on his own for the most part. It’s very weak, so it’s another big physical progress, and I hope both things work.

I have to make sure the kids don’t run off with him and think he’ll be back in two weeks, because there’s still a long way to go.

I think it’s a great moment.

Kate said she was praying for Derek’s miracle.

Kate admitted that she had been afraid that Derek would give up, as she had been doing for months, but she was relieved when she heard that he could fight to speak the word of pain.

She went on to say: It’s hard because I don’t want him to suffer, it would be much more fun if he was like this: I love you, baby, Kate, or say hello to the kids.

It’s a sign that gives me hope for a beginning of recovery.

When she apologized for her early tears, Kate told her GMB colleagues that I was sorry for the emotion.

It doesn’t matter how much she warned you: The problem is we’re all locked up on Thursdays, we’re all exhausted all over the country.

I would say that if you get Covid and you’re unlucky and you get it as Derek, even though he’s been Covid-free for months, the potential for prolonged suffering is huge.

Good morning, Britain is on ITV at 6am on weekdays.
