We’re now eight weeks into the 2021 NHL season, and teams are approaching (or have already passed) half of their rosters, though we don’t have an All-Star break as a symbolic marker. This week in the ESPN Power Rankings, we’ve identified each team’s underrated history.

How are we doing? ESPN’s hockey writers list the team’s picks from 1-31 – taking into account game results, injuries and upcoming deadlines – and those results are here.

Message: Previous rankings for each team refer to our Week 7 edition, published on the 3rd. March has been published. The percentage score goes up to 9. March.

The Lightning are always praised for their depth, and one of their key players over the past two seasons has been Ondrej Palat. The 29-year-old has already scored the first goal of the game six times this season, which is a league record for a player.

Nothing can stop the season of Max Pacioretty (32). The winger achieved his best results in terms of goals and points per game. And he produces in the big moments. Of his 12 goals, three were in overtime.

It’s a little easy to say that the Leafs have finally learned to play defensively and therefore can make the playoffs this year. Last season, however, Toronto went from 25th in the all-time tiebreaker rankings to second in the same category.

The Caps’ power play ranks sixth in the league at 26.2 percent, which is about what you’d expect from Alex Ovechkin’s team. Oddly enough, the power play has been bad on the outside. So really bad, 3 out of 32 possible, at a rate of 9.4%, while a short circuit is possible.

That was a great look for Nick Ritchie. The 25-year-old scored nine goals in 48 games last season and has already scored eight times in 22 games in the 2021 season. Ritchie offers a new perspective on the power play, and his biting style has earned him comparisons to a young Milan Lucic.
