Tottenham Hotspurs have the option to extend Gareth Bale’s season-long loan from Real Madrid, according to the London Evening Standard. Spurs only have until October 31st to decide whether to take up the option to keep Bale for another season. If they choose not to, the Welshman will return to Madrid, where he has been a bit-part player this season.

Tottenham’s options when it comes to Gareth Bale’s future aren’t limited to whether they will or won’t sell him this summer. “We’re still in the Champions League and we’re still in the FA Cup, and we want to further our progress in both competitions,” said Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas. “The most important thing for us is to be competitive in the last 15 games of the season.”

The January transfer window may seem like a distant memory, but that doesn’t mean the rumor mill has stopped! There is a lot of speculation about the summer moves. Check out the latest gossip below, and see all the official proposals here.

MAIN STORY : Spurs can keep Bale

Tottenham could extend Gareth Bale’s contract this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Daniel Levy ensured that Spurs included a clause in the Welshman’s first loan deal, allowing him to return at the end of his current contract.

The report states that Levy will introduce the 31-year-old to the next manager if he signs a new contract, with the London club paying around £240,000 a week for his current deal.

The prospect of a second loan comes as it seems unlikely that Bale will play for Real Madrid next season, and the Spanish club are willing to take a portion of his salary from his current account.

A deal would require Bale to agree to return to the club, something that seemed unlikely just a few weeks ago.

But a string of impressive performances, most recently a hat-trick in Sunday’s win over Sheffield United, and game time for the winger under interim coach Ryan Mason may have convinced him to return to London next year.

The transfer will cost Tottenham an extra £12m in wages, but it is a cheaper option than attracting an immediate replacement for the wide position this summer.

PAPER GOSSIP

– West Ham United will not be able to contract Tammy Abraham this summer if Chelsea demand £40m for the striker, according to Sky Sports. David Moyes confirmed in his press conference prior to the Hammers’ victory over Burnley on Monday night that the 23-year-old would be priceless for the club and that he is unlikely to sign a player for that amount. Abraham has not played a Premier League game for Thomas Tuchel’s side since February, leading to talks about the player’s future.

– Federico Bernardeschi is set to leave Juventus when his contract expires at the end of next season, and the Italian side want to sign the player this summer if possible. Calciomercato reports that the 27-year-old is ready to leave the club. The club plan to release the midfielder in the summer to fund other bids, either through a swap or a deal that matches their own valuation. The Italian moved from Serie A to Fiorentina for £36m in 2017, but has only played four full games this season.

– According to Calciomercato, Roma and Internazionale are in talks to sign Cagliari midfielder Nathan Nandes. The 25-year-old is reportedly admired by Inter coach Antonio Conte, who wanted to sign the Uruguayan last summer and in January. Roma are also interested in the midfielder and have already made contact with his manager, but talks between the clubs are still pending. Cagliari have a €35 million exit clause in the player’s contract, which runs until 2024, and instead of negotiating, they want the full amount.

– Bayern Munich are the new favourites to buy Aston Villa youngster Carney Chukwuemek this summer, according to Football Insider. The 17-year-old is being courted and Liverpool and Manchester City are also interested in competing for his signature. The central midfielder is yet to make his Premier League debut for Villa, who secured him a three-year contract at the age of 17.

– Tottenham have expressed an interest in signing Norwich defender Max Aarons this summer. Football Insider reports that the Canaries are willing to let the 21-year-old go if a £30m bid is made in the next window, after a gentleman’s agreement was reached with the player last year following relegation.
