Focus Functions and Amblins Come Play took first place at the Halloween box office this weekend. The horror thriller premiered on Friday and received $3.1 million from 2,183 theaters across North America. Come Play is written and directed by Jacob Chase. As Gillian Jacobs, John Gallagher Jr., Agie Robertson, and Winslow Fegley, she follows the parents of a primary school student with autism as they try to protect their young son from the abduction of Larry, an unfair humanoid orphan who preys on the innocence of children. The film received mixed reviews from critics.

The action thriller Fair Thief reached second place this weekend with $1.3 million. The film with star Liam Neeson was in first place for this weekend, two weekends in a row. Theatres in Los Angeles and New York remain largely closed. In North America there are currently records that could lead to the closure of all theatres in the coming weeks.

The war with grandpa took third place this weekend, after bringing in a million dollars. The family comedy with Robert De Niro has been a success since the film debut on the 9th. In October, just over $16 million was raised worldwide. The supernatural thriller Empatural Empty Man finished in fourth place and raised $561,000. The film was released last weekend in the theatres and was meant to gather a few people in the theatres during the Halloween weekend.

Disney’s hocus-pocus remains in the top ten after winning $456,000 this weekend. Fans of the original film are eager to meet the original actors Bette Midler, Kathy Najimi and Sarah Jessica Parker for the next Disney+ sequel. Number 6 is Nightmare Before Christmas, who also managed to stay out of the water in the top ten in October. It yielded $386,000 this weekend and is likely to last until Christmas, depending on whether the theaters remain open the rest of the year or not.

John Carpenter’s Halloween came in seventh this weekend and raised $274,000. Oktoberklassiker is one of the best horror films of all time and the most important at this time of year. Elsewhere, Monsters Inc. came in eighth place after earning $232,000, while Spell came in ninth with $210,000. After all, Fox’s The New Mutants finished in tenth place again this weekend with $145,000. The other results of this weekend’s fundraiser can be seen under the heading The Numbers.
