In a recent article, my wife was quoted as saying that the men in this league don’t belong, and she was right. In the past five years, we have seen a number of players with stellar credentials fall to the wayside, thanks to various injuries, and this year, we have seen a current group that is so lacking in talent that you almost have to question whether they belong at all.

The NFL’s roughing the passer ruling has left Kyle Orton out in the cold. But he’s having a good time anyway and he’s not alone. A whole host of NFL players, from players who have been injured to superstars who have won a Super Bowl, have taken to Twitter to voice their support for Orton.

Another day, another child dead because of gun violence. The latest victim is 14-year-old Jordan Edwards of Fort Worth, Texas, who was shot in the head on Friday night. The shooter was a neighbor who had a history of problems with his family, including previous threats and confrontations. But even after authorities were alerted to the threat, they did nothing.

Although it’s been a long time since he wore the legendary green jersey of the Boston Celtics, Larry Bird’s legacy is still strong in Bintown. During his time on the floor, the attacker has shown that he is a talented player and a proven winner. He also had a lot of confidence and could hit deadly shots, making him the centerpiece of some famous NBA stories. In his rookie season, Dominique Wilkins experienced this reality first hand. And despite Bird’s rude comments, he left the field with positive memories of the Celtics star.

Larry Bird had the confidence to speak his mind and the talent to back it up

. One of the main rules of thrash communication is to avoid strong words unless you can back them up. Fortunately for Larry Legend, this has never been a problem. Anyone who has seen him play can attest that his apparent lack of athletic ability never bothered Byrd. Although the Celtics forward didn’t take any breakaway shots, he was more than capable of accumulating stats. During his career, he averaged 24.3 points, 10 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game and, perhaps more importantly, brought three Larry O’Brien trophies back to Boston. Armed with this ability, Byrd also unleashed numerous verbal attacks on his opponents. For example, he once told the entire bench of the Phoenix Suns that he was tired of playing against them, and then scored the winning goal. In another case, he warned a Celtics teammate that he was ready to kill him during a practice.

Put young Dominic Wilkins in his place

Take, for example, one of his first meetings with Dominic Wilkins. Although Wilkins came to the NBA as a highly regarded talent, Byrd did not hesitate to make things difficult for him. The Hawks and the Celtics met several times during the 1982-83 season, and Larry Legend was on the 5th team. April ready. One of the first times I played him, I went out for the first tie-break and went over to shake his hand. He just stood there staring at me with a stone face, his hands clasped behind his back, Wilkins said, according to a 2015 article in the Boston Herald. I was like this: Wow. Then we got ready for the game, and he said: You’re out of your element, buddy. I couldn’t believe it, but it all happened so fast I didn’t know what to think. Byrd didn’t stop harassing the rookie, though. Then they got the ball, it was my turn, and he said: I don’t know why they asked you to look after me, Homes. You can’t keep me, Wilkins. And then, bam, he rolled a 3. Then he came back down and said: They made the mistake of betting on me, Homs, and took 3 more.

Larry Bird didn’t give up, but Dominic Wilkins still had a positive experience that night

For most players, telling the opponent they don’t have it in them and then scoring a goal is more than enough. Larry Legend, however, was not in the majority. Then, a while later, I paused and he pulled away. I threw myself at him, Wilkins recalls. I jumped up and he tried to challenge me, but I passed the ring. He fell and hit the support of the basket. But even at that point, Byrd did not admit defeat. Instead, he gave the newcomer a biting double punch. He stood up and said: I like you, rookie. They have guts, Wilkins says. I was excited for a moment, then he said: But I’m still going to beat you to 40 today. Dominic didn’t let it get to him, though. Even if the Celtics win, he still scored a small personal victory by holding Byrd to 39 points. Believe it or not, young player Yastrebov left the field that night with a positive impression. Let me tell you something: I wouldn’t trade him for anything, Wilkins concluded. You know why? Because guys like Larry, Doc [Julius Erving] and Bernard [King] made you a better player. Wilkins has certainly become a very good player. Maybe it was Bird’s ramblings that made the difference. statistics provided by Basketball-Reference COMPARED TO: Magic Johnson and Larry Bird were teammates for their famousrivalry. This week, NBA phenom LeBron James announced his intention to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, the team that has been his home since he was a teenager.
