(CBS Local) – Midnight Society returns for the second season of “Are You Afraid of the Dark” on Nickelodeon. The new season begins on Friday, February 12, and cast member Malia Baker is looking forward to fans seeing all the crazy things that are going to happen this year.
The popular success from the 1990s was relaunched in 2019 with a brand new cast. The show tells the story of a group of young people who call themselves the Midnight Society and tell each other horror stories. Their love of horror stories is put to the test when the real world begins to get just as scary as their stories. Baker plays the role of Gabby Lewis, and she is fortunate to have the lead role to develop this character.

“The experience was incredible, and it was my first little taste of the horror genre,” Baker said in an interview with local CBS DJ Sixsmith. “It was a great opportunity to grow up and see other work I could do. The most surprising thing was that I thought it would be scarier on set. I play the role of Gabby, a smiling, athletic city girl, and she’s great in this town. She even has a weekend job so she can pay for her studies to get out of town. I’ve noticed with Gabby that I want to set her straight. At first she is very closed off and doesn’t want to have fun. She is pretty much the mother of the group. She is very rules oriented and eventually she lets go. She can be a kid and have fun”.
Baker enjoyed working with children his own age after being the youngest on the set of several other shows. The actress’ father worked in the film industry for many years and she learned a lot from him even before she started her career.
Philip Moeller explains how the coronavirus has exposed the U.S. health care system.
“I heard stories about his set and how he almost made it to the top,” Baker said. “It was very inspiring, and I’ve been watching movies almost my whole life. Robin Williams is a great inspiration to me. I loved seeing how he lived his life to the fullest. Here I am, and I think I’ve done well so far, and I hope to do better in the future.
Williams’ favorite actors are Good Will Hunting and Mrs. Doubtfire. Like those films, Are You Afraid of the Dark has survived since its first release in the 1990s. Baker certainly felt extra pressure to continue her legacy when she booked the role.
“It’s such an honor. I remember feeling some pressure because it’s “Are You Afraid of the Dark,” which is very important,” Baker said. “I remember hearing on set that we were the 100th episode of ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark,’ which is even cooler to present to the world. I think it’s great that adults who have seen the original series can pass it on to their children.
