The Common Law Admission Test is a common law (common law background) law entrance examination in India. It is administered by the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) Council, and is a qualifying examination for admission to practice law in all the High Courts and the Supreme Court of India, as well as the High Courts of Calcutta, Madras, Bombay, Kerala, and Nagpur. What is the CLAT exam?

  • The total weightage of the exam is 150 marks, consisting of 100 MCQs (1 mark each) and 2 open-ended questions (25 marks each and 800 words).
  • For each correct answer you will receive one point and for a wrong answer you will receive -0.25 point.
  • MCQs can be on any legal topic. On the other hand, an essay question may relate to a current issue or other legal topic.

Age limits for CLAT examinations

No lower or upper limit has been announced by the Bar Council of India in the CLAT. According to the general communication, there is a limitation in the level of education, which creates a flexible floor. However, there is generally no maximum age associated with the CLAT exam.
