A newspaper article is a form of journalism that deals with a particular subject. It contains analyses, predictions, expert commentary, etc. In the article, the reporter summarizes events and facts, draws some conclusions and makes predictions. If you want to know how to write a good news article, you can read this article.

How to write a news article

News reports are the most popular media. These are short messages that give a brief description of the event that occurred. For example, about a music concert that took place, the construction of a factory or the death of a famous person.

These reports answer some fundamental questions: What happened, where did it happen, when did it happen, who was involved? The messages contain important details. For example, how many spectators there were, what would be produced at the plant and in what quantity, what merits the deceased actor had, etc.

Even a schoolboy can write messages. But there are some nuances to consider. The structure of the article is the same as that of any journalistic document: the title, the lead (the first paragraph, say, the announcement of the article), the basis, and you can also include a conclusion.

How to write news articles

If you don’t know how to write a news article, you should read these rules. The first thing you need to do is write well, construct a classic piece of journalism and make your topic relevant and appealing to the reader.

Feel free to sign up as a freelance journalist for publications you have already published or that you would like to publish (the second option is best discussed with the editors in advance). Then go home and start writing.

Writing a news story

Let’s start at the beginning. You need a name. Headlines can be divided into those used in newspapers and those used on news sites. To put it simply: The title of a paper should be short (2-3 words), but always artistic and attractive. And for websites, a long headline is used to make the essence of what is going on clear. If you want to understand the headlines in more detail, read the articles on your favorite news portals.

Writing a news story

Structure of the news article :

  • Title;
  • lead;
  • Article content;
  • Conclusion.

First of all, you need to choose a topic for your article. The title can be made up either at the beginning or after the material has been written.

The common thread is the first paragraph of the text. This is an introduction. In print media, the headline is usually printed in bold. Identify the topic in the title, make the reader briefly but concisely understand what the article is about.

What is the most important part of the article, the basics? Analyze the problem at hand, write it down in detail. You can structure your material chronologically (by describing certain events in chronological order), or you can structure it logically – where one thing follows the next. Add statistics, expert opinions and quotes. Learn by reading quality magazines.

Don’t just read the articles, but write down what you like, what you find compelling, what techniques you want to use in your documents. Give different points of view, let the reader think about them and form his or her own final opinion. If the material is large, divide it into several parts and create a subtitle for each.

The conclusion contains at most one or two paragraphs of text. Conclude, summarize and draw conclusions from what you have written.

And finally, a little advice. If you write and publish, sooner or later you’ll get tired of being asked to write about things you don’t care about, for free. Prepare convincing arguments in advance to say no if you don’t like the offer. And if you’re asked to write a biography or some other text, how do you explain to people that this is a job that has to be paid for? Say that drafting the documentation takes a lot of time and effort, that it distracts you from your work, and that you can only write it for so far.

How to start a story

If you don’t know how to write a news article about an event, you should read these tips. You attend a concert in the city (a visiting rock band, a symphony orchestra or an ethnic music group from Australia). You want to write a newspaper article about it (you want to see your name in the paper/magazine/internet, brag to your friends, or just do some journalism). Why not?

Attend the event, take good pictures and, if possible, talk to the organizers, the artists and the audience.

Examples of press articles

To clarify and remember how to write a news article, here is a wild example. The French President has arrived in Baghdat. Consider the following title for a print publication. Select the keywords from the text you want to use to write your title. Words: President, France, visit, Baghdat, important guest, unexpected, and so on. These words evoke certain associations. The title is Unexpected Visit. By the way, you can find a title before and after the article is written. It’s already more comfortable for you. And for a website, the title would be as follows: The French president went to Baghdad.

Now let’s get to the main point. The common thread is the first paragraph of the text. It’s usually in bold. We begin with a brief summary of preliminary information. They write a long headline that we thought would be appropriate for a news agency (The French president has arrived in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on a business visit to sign some agreement. He’ll stay here one day, then he’ll go there. A sentence should consist of 2 or 3 short sentences. You can bend each line a bit, but a lead shouldn’t be 5 words or a few paragraphs long without becoming fanatical.

After the credits, write the main text. Write down what you know about what is happening, what the press release says, what you have heard from other sources. Be concise, giving basic information and important details.

Finally, you need some kind of closing sentence. Let’s just say: The President promised that this would not be his last visit to Iraqi cities and that he would come next year for the Iraqi folk music festival. Whether the signed agreements will actually benefit the Iraqi people because (at this point a useful perspective is summarized). In addition, at the end of the message there may be a context, a history of the event, some details about the topic.
