Britain is about to drop below zero tonight, with an expected 10 cm of snowfall in parts of the country.
In much of Scotland and northern England, including the Pennines and Yorkshire Moors, travel is likely to be interrupted by snow and ice conditions.
Parts of the south will also feel the winter coolness as temperatures fall to -1C (30F) in southwest London.
However, the coldest weather is expected at night in the west of Scotland, where temperatures can drop to -10C (14F).

The subway said that the cold would last until Friday, but that on weekends the weather would be lighter and there would even be some sunshine.
She added that next week’s temperature will be below the annual average, which is normally 7-9C (45-48F).
Chief Meteorologist Dan Soori said this week will certainly be windier, with cold weather with the danger of frost, ice and heavy rain.
The risk of snow accumulation is mainly limited to the northern half of Great Britain – mainly across the great heights of Scotland, Wales and northern England.

By Thursday morning snow had fallen 2 cm below, 2 to 5 cm above 200 m and up to 10 cm in parts of North West Scotland, slightly disrupting the journey.
Snow and ice warnings are valid until Thursday afternoon for parts of Scotland and until Wednesday evening for Northern Ireland.
Scottish traffic manager Douglas Cairns said a record number of combine harvesters were brought into service this winter to keep traffic flowing.
The first storm warning with snow and ice is always a timely reminder to people that they are ready for winter and that they have made the right preparations, he said.

But Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Harris said that despite the cold and turbulent weather – including ice fog – it’s all doom and gloom.
We are looking at other areas where there is a potential for destructive snowfall – especially central and southeast England and the hills of northern England, he said.
In the weekend it will continue to rain in many places, heavy rain and snow in the mountains, but also night frost.
We have also seen a greater development of some difficult to move areas, with foggy frost that can last all day at this time of year.
However, this is not all doom and gloom, because the dry, clear and perhaps even sunny weather is likely to increase as the weekend approaches.
